Tonight, I saw a note posted by the checkout effective Sep 29, 2008 that if you reuse your bags (plastic, paper or canvas) you get 3 cents off your order.
I don't remember exactly what the sign said but I believe it was 3 cents for each bag.
I was wondering how they figure up how many bags to credit you for. I'm guessing they might go by the number of items and figure so many items per bag. I doubt they wait until after your order is bagged and then give you credit.
Has anyone else seen this or brought your own bags?
I havent seen it but I'll check the store next time I go ( was just there today but was watching the ring up so closely I didnt notice much else) Hey, 3 cents a bag off would add up over time...
Fred Meyer has been doing this with the reusablr bags since they put them out. Cashiers usually wait till the end and count how many they used. Some forget, sometimes I forget to remind them. lol Fm does .05 per bag, my Safeway does .03 per bag and they usually credit me for ALL my bags whether used or not, but not always. Depends on the cashier. I use the reusable ones, not the plastic bags.
Kroger has been doing this for awhile now, but in my experience, it's always been $.05 per bag. And, they've always just asked me how many bags I brought with me...if it's a lot, they don't tend to sit there and count, they just take me at my word. I've re-used both the plastic and the canvas bags.
Yeah, it was $.05 but it dropped. I noticed that on my last shopping trip. All I do is put my bags (the canvas ones) in front of all of my food. They'll count them up then. I LOVE my canvas bags.

Colleen--I used to forget all the time too. Now what I do is as soon as I am done putting away my groceries, or whatever else I bought, I run the bags out and put them in my trunk. It really is great to not have all those plastic bags around the house.

I do this also, but for some reason I never think to bring them into other stores. I never forget at Kroger though.
I make good use of their plastic bag recycling bin also. I love that it is right inside the door. Walmart moved theirs to the customer service desk and it is a pain.
