    QUESTION Help With Coupon Terminology

So I just got back from Kroger, where I was not allowed to use some coupons...

I had a peelie coupon that said: Save $1.50 NOW ON CHICKEN when you buy any ONE (1) package of NEW PHILADELPHIA Cooking Creme.

So I had my package of Chicken & one package of the Philadelphia Cooking Creme.

I also had a coupon for the Cooking Creme that says: Save $1.50 when you buy ONE (1) package of any PHILADELPHIA Cooking Creme.

According to the cashier, my chicken coupon was basically on BOTH items, not just the chicken. So I could not use my cooking creme coupon because I didn't have enough items. She told me I would have to buy another cooking creme. Does that sound right?

She did say she could scan them and they would go through, but that would be illegal. I wasn't going to fight over the $6 since I was on my lunch and an irriated man next to me was cussing because I was taking up his precious time. I guess he needed to see the cashier. So I told her I didn't want the chicken or the creme.

So is she right or am I right?

it is not worth the fight. the cashier should of just scanned them and been done with it.

you did right telling her to take both off. it is not "illegal" to do that like she said. you could of always walked over to the cs desk and asked the cs person. sometimes they will say that you can and let you do it right there....if the store policy is different they would tell you too. you can always call and speak to the manager now.

I agree with motherofmolly, ask for a manager to assist you. You definitely aren't doing anything illegal. Your cashier didn't understand the concept of piggy-backing. Your "Creme" coupon applies to the Philly Creme and your "Save on Chicken" coupon applies to the chicken, and requires you to purchase the Creme to get the $ off chicken. There's no good reason why you can't save on the creme by using a coupon against it. (Unless the store has a policy prohibiting this - most don't - or unless the coupon somehow prohibits it.)

Both coupons are distributed by Kraft I think. I'm looking at the one in our local Shop N Save ad, and Kraft distributed this one for saving on chicken when you buy the Creme. So it's possible that the coupons are giving the register fits because you are purchasing one Kraft product (Creme) and using a Kraft-distributed coupon against that, and then purchasing _____ brand of chicken & using a Kraft-distributed coupon against the chicken. This IS an appropriate use of coupons (piggy-backing) but still may give the register fits because it's searching for two Kraft items to match two Kraft products and not finding two - may require intervention by someone who knows how to interpret the coupon properly. That's my thought anyway. Hope that helps!
