Kroger (Central) ~ Question Catalinas can only be used with YOUR Kroger card?

Hello

I am a new Kroger shopper and also new to using catalinas. A friend of mine gave me 2 of her 3.00 cats to use. She won't be able to use them before they expire. The problem is I tried to use them yesterday and was told they wouldn't work with my Kroger card? They only work with my friends card?:shrug7: I thought they were like a coupon? Does anyone have any experience with this. I've heard stories on other boards about people using found cats with no problem. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks . Julie

I have never heard of that. I use cats that my mom gives me all the time.

Nope, that's not true. Cats are not linked to your Kroger card. I've used ones I've found from other ppl's transactions many times.

Technically, you can (by store permission only!) redeem Cats at any store that has the Catalinas installed in their store. Some stores do accept other stores' Cats.

*Please note, I am NOT telling you that you CAN redeem your Kroger Cats at saaayy.. Meijer. I'm merely saying that some stores in some parts of the country DO accept other stores' Cats.
(Hope I gave that enough qualifiers!) :)

I asked the ladies at the front desk. I had a few catalina questions. The fact that I had 2 cats from a friend came up and they were like NOOO!! Those won't work with your Kroger card only your friend can use them. They led me to believe that when I swipe my card there is some sort of alert system that would keep me from using any other cats but my own. I kept the cats in question and I will try to use them this weekend. Thank you all. Julie

I find cats in the trash, parking lot or from friends. The ALL work. I think they pulled this one out of their butts. You will find that if they don't KNOW the answer, they make up one. This happens all time at ALL stores. Stupid people get on my nerves.

That is completely untrue. There is no tracking device on the catalinas to say what card earned them, use them and ignore what they told you. Must be transplants from CVS

If they are oynso(on your next shopping order) catalinas, they might beep(not because of their excuse) because Kroger just changed the coding on them to just about ALWAYS beep

LOL - isn't that the truth.

I did find out why they always beep (at least this is what I've been told - it makes sense although they may have pulled it out of their butts also). If a single item is not larger than the Catalina it will beep (ex. for a $3 Catalina, if you don't have any items over $3 by itself, the coupon will beep).

A cashier tried to tell me it beeped because I wasn't buying any ziploc and that the other one beeped because I wasn't buying betty crocker potatoes. I told her to call the manager. I love it when I know more then the cashiers do about THEIR system.
