I had a poor experience yesterday and wanted to get some of your opinions on this. This goes under the umbrella of "
employees making up rules as they go"
I had 4 of the $5 email cpns and selected 4 items (
2 of which were $20, so we're not talking free merchandise here). One cpn was mine, the other 3 were from other people (trade & ebay). Each with a unique email and barcode.
I understand the terms state:
*one-time use
*one per customer
*one per transaction
So first I asked the cashier if she could do 2 transactions. I only went this route because I had these a couple years ago and they did it no problem. She said no, its one per cust. Fine, so I pay for one item. Left the other laying there. Went to my car, and returned. I picked up my items and went to another register. The cashier obviously saw this and called someone. When I got to the new cashier for 2nd item, she stated I already used one today. I said yes, I did (
with a questioning look on my face - why does that matter). This is a new cpn, diff barcode/email. I left the store and returned so I am a new customer.
Their Excuses:
1. First they tell me its
limit one per customer per day. (this is not stated anywhere on cpn)
2. Next they come up with "
one per household per day". This is also not stated on the coupon....and if you want to get particular, these were all acquired by diff households.
3. She tries to tell me she would have to
check my ID. Doing this would accomplish what?? My ID wasn't checked at 1st purchase, the address isn't shown on the cpn...AND, you are not required to show ID to redeem.
In fact, the cpns don't even say "non-transferable"...so the whole ID thing is irrelevant. Their terms don't dis-allow selling, trading or giving the coupon to another person.
So I ask...where does it say any of this on the cpn? Well it doesn't, but thats the rules. If Kohl's wanted those to be rules, they would have put that on the cpn, ya think?
Here is the kicker. She calls a mgr who says
at first that she would let me redeem my remaining 3 cpns "just this once"

. The cashier (i think intentionally) puts her register in the wrong screen to enter the cpn. Tells me it doesn't work..did I already use it. Uh, no! She tries a couple more times (again in the wrong screen). So she asks the other cashier what she should do. This other cashier had been at the OTHER door's registers when I checked out the 1st time. So she says call "Mary" (
the person who rang me 1st time) and ask her if its a different email and barcode than the one she redeemed earlier. They do this and verify it was a diff cpn. So she calls her mgr who comes over and shows her she was trying to enter it wrong - it scans just fine. I pay. She puts the other items aside to be put back on racks. I said, didn't the mgr say she was going to let me use the other cpns I have? She says yes, if you hadn't already used one down there (pointing to the other door). So let me get this straight...she was going to let me use all
3 cpns, but since I used one earlier, I can now only use one more for a total of 2. HUH?!

Where is the logic in this?
And they offered to hold my other items so I could come back today and buy them with my other cpns.
;;; scratches head I didn't do anything wrong from what I can tell. I did everything as I should have to abide by the printed terms, right?
