Default Re: New Year of Doubles?????

Well, they actually make lots of money due to doubles. they only need to figure if it was as much as they thought and worth it. Maybe determine which area are better etc.

Basically, when they super double, they are giving a sale on things and the sale is the price of the coupon. Yes, they only get reimbursed face value for the manufacturer. They are always counting on people to buy things they might not normally buy because there is a coupon, also things they would buy elsewhere but are in the store anyways.

I agree, I don't think they are losing money (or they shouldn't be). I mean its not like KMart buys a bottle of shampoo for $3 and sales it to us for $3. KMart buys that shampoo for a much cheaper price. All they are doing by doubling coupons is cutting into their profits for the individual item. Now things like overhead are another kettle of fish, but the store still has to pay certain fixed costs regardless of the promotions going on.

Not to mention that they know there is a greater liklihood to get someone in the store to buy other things when these type of promotions are going on (not us couponers mind you). So someone picks up a t-shirt while they are there too. I'd bet the money made off that shirt covers any money lost on a few doubled coupons.

Saw this posted in another section-decided to email for myself:

Dear Customer,
>
>
Thank you for contacting Kmart regarding the Kmart Double Coupon Event. We appreciate your interest in this promotion. This event is for select participating Kmart locations from 4/4-4/10. Both the Lima and St. Marys, OH stores are participating.

Below are the details of the promotion:

-Manufacturer Coupons up to and including $2 Value – Doubled up to $2 no matter what the retail price of a single item is.

-Does not include Kmart Store Coupons

-Does not include Kmart Pharmacy Store Coupons

-Limit 5 total coupons per customer per day.

-First 5 coupons provided by customer will be doubled.

Thank you for contacting us and have a nice day.

5 Coupons per day? Sheesh. And what does this "Manufacturer Coupons up to and including $2 Value – Doubled up to $2 no matter what the retail price of a single item is. " mean?

That sounds to me like they are allowing overage. So if an item is on sale for $1.50 and you have a coupon for $1.00 it will double to $2.00 and you will get $0.50 to spend on other items. 'Course if this is true you'd think they would say that they would not be giving money back to the customer forcing you to buy something else to use up the overage. :shrug7:

Anybody have any other ideas as to what this could mean?

I emailed and asked them if it meant a $2 coupon on something that was $3.50 would equal $.50 overage. They said:
"Thank you for your recent correspondence. We are always interested in
hearing from our customers. We can understand wanting to make sure you
have the correct rules and guidelines for the Double Coupon Event.

At this time, your reasoning is correct on the doubled coupon no matter
the retail price. This is the information provided by our corporate
office. This information may be clarified closer to the actual event
time. We recommend checking in with us at the end of March for more
details. The stores will be enforcing the coupon limits.

The Greenville, OH and Piqua, OH stores are not going to be
participating in this event. We apologize for any inconvenience you may
encounter by not having all of your local stores participating.

We appreciate your feedback. By sharing your ideas, you have enabled us
to address the issues and provide feedback to the appropriate person.
Truly, your remarks provide forthright feedback that will enable Sears
Holdings to improve the customer experience.

Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter with
your selected stores not participating in the Double Coupon Event and we
thank you for contacting us."

Awesome! All we need is some $2 coupons for super cheap items! Maybe that will make up for the stingy 5 coupon limit.

How exactly are they going to enforce 5 coupons per customer per day? I can understand them only doubling the first 5 coupons of a transaction, but whose to say you can't come back, really?
Maybe it has something to do with the long lines, and shelf clearing.

On a slightly different note, I think that Kmart (and really all stores - not just those that do doubles) needs to hire someone to do some research on what q's are current and most likely going to be used during a particular doubles event (the cheapest and free items) and just stock up on those items. Seems that they would make the most money that way anyway...

ITA. It would be nice to actually get some of the stuff. There is a store about 1/2 hr away from my inlaws that never limited the total number of coupons you could use. I HOPE they won't limit again this time. Might make it worth visiting hubbys family Haha I kid, they're great.
