Oh my goodness - what a blast we had at Kmart!!!!
5 of us went & took 2 vehicles (35 minutes one way) - disappointed first few aisles - everything seemed so expensive (3 of us are CVS junkies). Then we hit the shampoo aisle! We did the Sauve Shampoo which was $1.25 on sale which included the 33% more packs. Used a $2/3 coupon. Dove was $4 for the bigger bottles. Of course, Sunsilk products, etc. We had a blast in that aisle we even hijacked the employee's only ladder (like is there really an employee that would see us?). Just act like you need help to see what I mean....LOL
Lots of the normal deals talked about were wiped out. If they do it again I'll definitely be there on Day #1 - all calendared activities are off - 100% cancelled but we managed to get a great haul.
When it came time to check out, a cashier approached us and said the manager asked her to take us as opposed to him on a certain register. I had checked with the ass't store manager partway thru the shop. I asked to ring one item then one coupon. Told No - it will void the sale. WTH? (excuse my french). I knew I was going to be there awhile just with that one buggy! Then the Trident gum rang up for a dime over. Told cashier. She checked shelf tag, voided them off, re-rang.... You know the bit. She was breathing hard..... I really felt kinda sorry for her. After a couple of price checks she took my word for it which was nice 'cause soooo many didn't ring up correctly! The pricing was all over the board.
Then we start with the coupons. #1 - #4 go ok although she didn't pick the correct item. #5 - #8 (different items) don't go well. No, the register takes it off automatically. It didn't. Explained. Explained again. She told me that's just the way it is or something like that. I asked if she could call a supervisor. Two come running over. #1 explains that the coupon didn't double because I can't get something for free. WTH????? Ok, so why did Coupon #1 - 4 give me the bars for free? Well that's not right - let's void them off.
I explained as calmly as possible (I think I did amazingly well all things considered) that I think that the correct item button was not pushed when prompted. All 3 told me that it was not necessary to push the correct button - just let the register do the work. I told them that yes, I did believe it mattered and tried to explain why. They did a couple of things then I suggested we void off the 4 problematic coupons and start again. Wowsa! The Dove Shampoo was actually free. The managers left after awhile and then the cashier was frustrated by the $1/2 coupons and just manually entered them as $2.
The first order (my friend's) was $116 and she paid $3.21 - my couponer in training has officially graduated!!!! Her next order was $1.16 and the third was $-0-. She ended up saving 97%. #2 (& #5) couponers saved 80%, #3 77%, #4 68%.
A lightbulb went off in the cashier's head and after that first order, she was wonderful and got even better as we checked out 5 buggies of stuff!
And guess what???? On the second order and subsequent order, the cashier magically got the register to work by scanning an item then the coupon.![]()
That was wonderful advice!
WATCH THE SHELF TAGS & SALE TAGS and the register like a hawk!
One manager said, these people keep coming back in thinking we're just going to take their word for it and give them their $ back!!!! I said that's why I want to be SURE everything rings up correctly right from the start!
