General rule of thumb for these kind of deals: If it is for $x off instantly when you buy $y it is based on the sale price after Preferred Card. If it is for a cat of $x off your next purchase when you buy $y it is generally for the sale price before Preferred Card. The exceptions to the last are items that are on the Osco side. There are some small glitches where an item is a Jewel item at one store and an Osco item at another.

In this case it is $x off instantly when you buy $y so it is based on sale prices after Preferred Card.
