It remains to be seen how good this price relief is. I would much rather be able to use expired coupon than this so called price relief.
Get ready...Jewel/Osco to cut 4000 prices to serve you better. Will be up on T.V. ads and in store next week. Lowering prices on key items by 20%. Across dozens of categories. Lower prices on key staple items. This is NOT a one week event..it's here to stay.
Jewel/Osco wants to help you manage your budget and still get the quality products you expect from them.
So, what do you think of this: BIG RELIEF PRICE CUT ?????
I COULD $AVE A LOT MORE MONEY- IF I HAD MORE MONEY...

LIARS!!!!!! I wonder what trick they have up their sleeve.
littlebuffalo, I totally agree about the expired coupons! They can "afford" to cut prices, but they couldn't "afford" to keep their expireds policy. Not all the stores accepted them anyway.
Too bad, they usually have the best sales for me to use mine.
Taking an extended break from trading.
It's nothing but a marketing ploy to counter-act the fact that they are no longer accepting expired coupons. Don't forget this is going to be off regular prices. I have that the Independents have still lower prices than that compared to Jewel and Dominicks. This also means that to make up the difference you are probably not going to see as good of a price cut for sales. Here is my prediction now: They lower the 20% on some items. Within a year those prices will be back up. They will slowly start raising them by a penny or two after a couple of months. It will be on a rotation basis so it doesn't seem obvious.
Sounds to me like they have been getting a lot of complaints about the change in their coupon policy. They may already be seeing a drop in sales. Once the official announcement comes out I would get back on the phone and tell them that this phoney balonie ploy does not make up for no longer accepting expired coupons. Also say something in the stores - that they are not going to see you as often anymore. If they are doing this their change in coupon policy is back-firing. Keep the pressure up. We may just end up getting our expired coupon policy back - at least with a shortened time frame.![]()
I don't think this is neccessarily correlated to the not taking expireds. I really don't think they care to appease the heavy duty coupon shoppers like us. They want to appeal to the yuppie types who think that something is a good deal because it is advertised as one - the folks who regularly pay 50 for a few bags of groceries and think they got the best deal because some things were on sale and perhaps they used one or two coupons. Even those types are feeling the pinch these days, and "discovering" stores like ultra and aldi that they wouldn't probably have shopped at a few years ago. Jewel wants to appeal to these shoppers, because that's the customer base they want and need to stay in business.
It might have something to do with Walmart trying to break into the Chicago region.
Wal-Mart Supercenters ring Chicago, grab share from Jewel, Dominick's - Chicago Tribune
Walmart gained 2% market share last year and the article says prices are 23% higher than Walmart.
You're right about it not being related to not taking expired coupons anymore. I still think that is going to hurt Jewel more than cutting some prices is going to help. I also think Dominicks and as you said Ultra and Aldi and I would add Food 4 Less are going to get some pick up.
I have to laugh because I have liked Dominicks better but right now Jewel is what is closest to me.
The ad came out to day with some of the new lower everyday prices in it. They say they have reduced the price on 1000's of items. We'll see if they still keep having good sales.
