Jewel Osco ~ Other: Jewel Osco NO LONGER TAKING EXPIRED COUPONS

Jewel is no longer taking expired coupons.
In some locations they have already stopped taking them and in other locations they will no longer except them after May 1st.

Do we have an official word on this? I want proof. So many stores have told people this in the past when it wasn't true. I always use self-check anyway. I will totally not do as many deals there (as will many of our members!) if I can't use my expireds.

I saw the signs today too! It was the New Lenox location on Nelson Rd. The sign said "in comliance with the redemption polocies" they will no longer accept expired coupons as of May 1st!

I personally agree that I will not do as many deals, however when they do have the ones that go by shelf price I will prob, still do one or so??

Also, I used a $10 coupon from the Kraft deal a couple of weeks ago, and she almost did not scan it b/c it was expired. She let me after I asked why, but I am still pretty bummed :(

I just called the customer service number and was told the Jewel in Lockport will no longer be taking expired coupons effective 5/1. She tried to play it off as if it was an individual store decision but I told her I heard it was corporate and what about the other stores close to me since I shop at more than 1 Jewel. She put me on hold and said she take down my complaint and would route the message to corporate.

I pointed out to her that being able to use expired coupons was one of the main reasons I shop there and I am not happy with the change in their coupon policy. I told her I would not be upset if they limited the time frame to say 6 months or 1 year. I also pointed out that there are three other major chains in the area that accept expired coupons.

The last thing I brought up is that they are going to loose business from me not as a protest but as a matter of practicality. I gave as an example an item on sale at both Jewels and Dominicks. Jewels has a slightly lower price but I have expired coupons that I can use at Dominicks but not Jewels. I asked her now which store do you think I am going to do my shopping at.

Maybe if enough of us call into customer service and complain they will rescind this policy change.

I just called my two stores Shorewood and Joliet and both are saying the same thing. Anyone have the number to corporate I just can't throw out all my great expireds until I know for sure there is nothing we can do. I'm not too crazy about shopping at Dominicks but if they take my expireds I will be going there and I will make it a point to tell corporate that!

Most of the Jewel shoppers in my area are not couponers, so I doubt they will care what I have to say.

I guess I can start going back to the Jewel a couple of blocks down from my house after May. I was going to Jewels out of my way because they took expireds. :shrug7:

I will be doing my shopping at Ultra and Dominicks for my expireds.

basiagrl the number is 1-877-932-7948. If your talking about the Shorewood Dominicks I don't think they are that great either. It might be a little too far for you but there is the Romeoville store which I have heard is nice and the Homer Glen store. Don't forget Ultra and Food 4 Less accept expireds also.


I'm glad you are going to call. I can't remember which store it was but there was one that stopped doubles and enough people called corporate and the store rethought their policy and brought back doubles.

I just got a call back from corporate and she was trying to make excuses. I pointed out that their other Supervalu stores have doubles - Cubs still has expireds. I'm not happy that they are giving the Chgo region the raw deal. I also pointed out that there are 3 other chains in the area that still take expired coupons. She said she would pass on the info to her supervisor.

She also tried to sell me on the the idea that they have competitive prices. The small independents and also Food 4 Less and Ultra have better sale and regular prices. They probably have the worst prices on meats. When they have sales I can still get a better deal at Dominicks on steak, hamburger chicken and pork loin. Jewels can't even come close. The only thing that they have going for them is the promotions. But Dominicks has similar promotions and without being able to use expired coupons, Dominicks is going to be the better deal for me.

I had put in a call to corporate earlier this afternoon and of course the one rep that I spoke to didn’t know what I was talking about. So I had asked that someone who know what they where talking about to call me back. Well I received a phone call from Kathy in Jewel Customer Support and was told the following…. That in the past Jewel would accept the expired coupons if they were to go though without beeping. However, in the past year they have been observing the usage on expired coupons and can no longer absorb the loss because they don't get reimbursed for expired coupons. I asked Kathy if she was aware that there a handful of other grocery retails that do take expired coupons and she said they surveyed other grocery store and none of them have an expired coupon policy. I told her that is not true that there are at lest three other stores that take them off the top of my head. I told her that there a lot of people who are very upset about this change in policy and will no longer be shopping at Jewel Osco due to the expired coupons policy change. She also said that ALL Locations have been instructed to accept our expired coupons till May 1st despite what we’ve been told. I took down her first, last and direct phone number in an event that I should have an issue checking out using my expired coupons in my upcoming trips.

Did the last name begin with an "L"? Because it sounds like we may have spoken with same person. Either that or they are giving the same lines to pass out. I was told the survey of the other stores was done by checking out their websites. I pointed out to her that Jewel didn't list their policy on their website.

Just a thought but any one that called CS did they ask when DOUBLE Swould be starting then? (Im saying this because most of the other sister stores of Jewels double so why not double at Jewel then too)

I realize we are probably at a lose for expireds but everyone should use up all the good ones that they can before its too late.
