Maybe go a different time of day and exchange with someone else. I've noticed a lot of disgruntled employees at Jewel lately. I'm not sure what corporate has said to them, but I bet they've said something!

I agree this just made there jobs harder, because now they have to look at coupons. Before all they had to do was scan and only look if it beeped.

I plan on making a call first. Depending on their reaction I may also call state and local agencies and file a complaint. That shelf with the coffee grounds for more than one day would definitely get them fined for code violations.

Over the years I have noticed that at not only supermarkets, but at discount and pharmacies that despite the coupon policy there are often bonus and penalties that contradict the store encouraging coupon use. I have heard of bonuses being the amount after the coupon is deducted. I have heard of cashiers being timed on either the number of items rung up but not counting the number of coupons or on the number of customers they check out not counting the size of the order or the number of coupons used. If they didn't meet their quota numbers they could be written up or fired.

Another thing I noticed is that there are a few managers that do not allow their cashiers to make any decisions or will tell their cashiers that they can't do something but will tell them to put something through only when a customer asks for and speaks to the manager. Often corporate will back up a manager despite the manager being in the wrong.

I know of one case for a small local chain. Three of the cashiers were fired for coming up short on their registers. This happened not to long after they had gotten a new store manager. One of the cashiers that was fired was a close friend of my neighbor's former baby sitter. My neighbor and I bumped into her and we were talking about what happened. The three had lawsuits going against the store and they had been able to find out that this was not the first time multiple cashiers had come up short at a store. Apparently this had also happened at another store and the cashiers had been fired there also while the manager was just moved to another store.
