Re: Jewel Osco NO LONGER TAKING EXPIRED COUPONS Here's my take:
Unfortunately, even though couponing is on the rise due to the economy, we are still very much a minority. Us taking our business elsewhere won't affect them much, depending on how they look at their 'bottom line.' We don't spend much OOP (my mom just got $60 worth for like $8, and does so on a regular basis) but we do buy a lot volume-wise. My mom went in with the intent of using her $4/$40 (with FREES and other things) but then saw other items and managed to bump it up to $60 pre-coupon, which should excite managers. That's $20 more worth of things she didn't plan on!
I ONLY set foot in there to participate in Catalina combined with expired coupons. I always use the expired (starting with the oldest!) first, saving the non's for WalMart or Super Target.
You can bet if they stop expired I will shop at Dominick's (a little more expensive, but sometimes great deals and if I can use expired? SOLD!) and Ultra Foods where I never have coupon issues. I only buy meat at Butera because deli lunch meat is consistently HALF the cost of Jewel. Chicken breasts are no more than $1.99/lb when I buy them. Jewel is not even CLOSE. I also have Shop n Save and Garden Fresh near enough where it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to switch over. Granted I don't know their coupon policies as of yet, but you can bet I will look them up! Yes, it's easy for me as Butera and Dominick's are walking distance, and Ultra is on the way home from work. I won't mind going to other stores to do my shopping, as I don't do one large weekly trip anyway (just stuff here and there).
I worked at Jewel for 8 years, but that doesn't mean I will be a loyal shopper if they stop expireds!
