What is the policy for using coupons on clearanced items - I think they were all from the Osco side. All items were in shopping carts with red stickers. The cashier didn't scan any of these items - just totalled them up and typed them in. She wouldn't let me use any coupons. Hope someone has an answer for me, thanks.
I am a SAHMama to two little boys. We are fairly new to the Chicago area. I stick mostly to the Jewel and Dominick's in the Morton Grove/Niles area.
oh they should....i do it all the time.....ask for a manger
They still should have let you use the coupons. It sounds like the cashier was taking a short cut. Even if there isn't an item to attach to the coupon the cashier should still be able to override and put the coupon through. There may have been a problem if you had a few coupons with a limit of how many overrides the cashier could put through. I would have asked to speak to a manager on the spot if a cashier tried to pull this on me.
You could still call the store and ask to speak to the manager. Make sure to speak to the store manager and not an assistant. They may have to call you back. If the manager does not do anything to compensate you for the coupons you could not use then I would call the regional office ask to speak to the district manager. At the very least the manager should tell you to bring in your receipt and coupons and give you money back on the coupons you were going to use. If it was from the Osco section the manager may ask you to bring the items back with you so it can be verified that you got all those items for the coupons you wanted to use.
