I called corp with a coupon issue a month ago or so and the first thing the manager from the corporate office asked me was "was it an unexpired manufacturers coupon?"

That was the first thing he wanted to know. The coupons are to be unexpired and manufacturer coupons before he would even go further than that in the conversation. In my case it was...but found it interesting that that was his first concern.

Did they just change the policy within the last few days? I just shopped at the Jewel in West Dundee last weekend & used a whole bunch of expireds. I even asked at the service desk before I used them, since I was doing the General Mills deal. The lady I spoke with seemed to indicate that it wasn't a "policy" per se, they just don't check the dates. Qs scanned fine, no beeps.

I even called the Woodstock Jewel about a month ago to ask about their policy & the lady there told me to go ahead and use expireds. She said that "she's not the coupon police".......

I used expireds with no problems today at the Woodstock and Crystal Lake Jewels. Also last weekend I was told by a CS person that yes they do accept expireds for Man Q's but not store Q's which is what I had asked about when I was there last weekend.

Do not know about the Jewels up north. I know my mother in law shops the Crystal Lake one and she never had a problem with expired coupons.

I never did either at the one in Morris until the lady there today told me they were changing their policy. I should have asked more questions, but they were busy and I didn't want to hold up the gal behind me asking questions.

Got a heck of a deal on Farmland bacon while I was in there though! They had it BOGOFREE, and I had 2 dollar off coupons to use on each package. Bought 10 packs for $8.95 plus tax.

Another reason why I didn't ask too many questions

I contacted Jewel via email about another coupon question and I got a form letter back including this quote:

"*Coupons must be redeemed at the time of purchase of the specific product. Coupons may not be redeemed after the transaction has completed.

*Expired coupons are not accepted. "

Just this past week a cashier sent me to customer service to redeem coupons for clearance items that he didn't know how to override. So I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they won't be doing that anymore. It must be the new ownership with the stricter coupon policy I'm thinking.

Yep, NO store accepts them according to policy. My good friend and I are in debate as to when we should stop as we wouldn't try to "slip them past" any other store.

I do wish corp had given us notice and a grace period....a sign that said something like "As of June 15, 2008 we will no longer be accepting your expireds" as opposed to just stopping this way.

It has been policy a long time now.

No store has told me that they won't take them. At least not since the one cashier back in January. We'll see what happens on my next trip.

I used exp'd Q's today in Plainfield. The policy there is that they don't check the date. I did try to use an exp Jewel $/$$ Q and they would not take it. I even used a MNF exp free Q today with no problem. They take exp'd IPs as long as they don't beep. They will NOT take exp'd internet frees.

I have found it just depends on the cashier as to whether or not your expired coupons will be accepted. Every once in a while I will have a cashier who refuses to take an expired. Its ben my experience that this "new policy" really varies by store and by cashiers within each store.

I also have a ton of expired coupons and wine tags. Looks like I better start putting them to good use soon. At least Dominick's still takes expireds, but their prices are so high.
