That's great. I sometimes donate food to the local food bank. They have a list of food items they prefer to accept. (As for everything else, (clothes, household items) I have to sell these because I need the money right now).
Keep up the good work....food pantries are always thankful for donations. You might also consider nursing homes. Lots of those residents can't afford hba's.

So good of you to donate. My boyfriend first came into my house about 1 1/2 years ago. He looked at my TWO ROOMS FULL of stockpile and said, "This has got to go." We have donated thousands of $$ to the mission and the homeless day center. I don't even miss the stuff. When my dad was alive, he sold his homegrown tomatoes at the flea market all summer and I took lots of HBA and food to sell there. We don't even think of flea market or yard sale anymore. We just bag up stuff every now and then and take it to the mission. I can understand the financial need to sell your surplus and really, I could use the money. That being said, we prefer to give it away. That warm glow you get doesn't have a price tag on it. I've tried ebay for used clothing, but, it didn't really work out for me. I think in a month I only made net about $20. I just couldn't keep up with it for that amount of money.
Giving to a church or a local homeless shelter, you know that they are good stewards of what is donated to them. Here's a thought. You give a few bottles of shampoo to a homeless shelter. They distribute them. Do you know that there are people, especially women, in your city that cannot even call a bottle of shampoo their own? If you were down that low, how much would it pick you up to have a small backpack of toiletries that are YOURS? I'm living on the edge of poverty, but, I have a home and I can provide for myself, mostly. I appreciate what I have and most of all, I appreciate the opportunity to learn new money stretching things here on HCW.

Anytime I donate it does make me feel good. As Vickib said, the women in shelters usually leave home with the clothes on their backs and a toothbrush is the last thing they should worry about. Few years ago my daughter and I make up ziplock bags with shampoo, conditioner, deo., tampax, body wash, make up, lipstick, nail polish, comb. toothpaste and brush. We took them to the shelter and they were thrilled!!! We felt good and it cleared up our storage....(to start over buying again ;))
