Minor Freecycle Vent

I realize that you are trying to be helpful, but please don't respond to an offer post with "a homeless shelter might want those" or a wanted one with "you can find them at the ___ thrift shop".

In the first case, if I had the time or inclination to give them to the shelter, I WOULD HAVE DONE IT and not posted on Freecycle. I didn't know where the shelters are around here, and now that I do, I am not wasting the gas to drive 15 miles to give the closest one a bag of hotel soaps.

In the second, if I wanted to pay for them, I would have done it and not posted on Freecycle. Someone nicer than you had one of what I was looking for, and wanted it out of their house.

I know what you mean I deal with that craziness on craigslist from time to time about certain things then I deal with lots of emails of crap! I never resond most cases I think they are hoping for my exact email address thankfully it is sent annonomously throught craigs list to me.

But really What you experinced makes you wanna laugh at peoples resonds sometimes.

I'm sure the homeless shelter could use the soap but like you said do you really have the gas or want to drive all that way. I guess if it were a direction you might head in some time you could do that. Some times the resonds can be crazy I know.

The shelter is in a direction that I very rarely drive. The next closest ones are almost 20 miles away.

I'm sure that someone will take my nice spa soaps from the Ritz-Carlton and other high rent hotels. :-)

lol! if you were close i would of picked them up. those are great soaps.

i love the ones that say "call me" when you specifically put in the post "i do not call anyone" or the ones that say "can you drop off to me"....if i wanted to drop off, i would be charging for this item....i just want someone to pick up.

and i absolutely hate the ones that commit and do not show up and do not tell you they are not coming....or the ones that come and then email you to say "sorry i didnt want it"....uugh then dont say you are coming.

i have gotten to the point i look for those that i have dealt with before responses. and i ignore those that cant say "i will be there x time" since i ask for that in their response....i delete those that want me to call them or the ones that want me to drop off...

I offered a lamp that had a very small socket for a bulb that you'd have to go to a specialty store to get. I plainly stated such & even gave the name of a store that carried them. A lady picks it up & then has the audacity to write me a rude email asking just where do I expect her to get such a bulb?

They don't bother to read what you post most of the time cause they just want to be the first to get it.

It crossed my mind, but then I realized that she knew where I lived, but I didn't have an addy to give to the police.

My local freecycle uses/used Yahoo boards. My local ISp does not play well with Yahoo and my email addy would frequently "bounce". They wouldn't deal with it...I would unbounce it as soon as I realized it, but they kicked me out anyway. *shrugs* Oh well. It was a PITA anyway, as things would be gone so fast, it wasn't worth the effort for me to even try. I do a lot better with Craigslist. lol

I was on freecycle for two weeks, and quickly got off. I had people asking me to deliver my items to them!

I always post that items must be picked up at/by a specific time/date. I *always* get an email asking if they can come pick it up at another time. date, or if I can hold it for them for an insane amount of time.
