    Default yard sale weirdness

I did my first yard sale in a long time. It was at local VFW which is in a small town, lots of people could walk there.

The turnout wasn't nearly what I had hoped, but I did ok.

Weird--I had dozens of boxes of pencils, either they were free after ECBs or they were a penny or whatever....I gave many boxes to my kid's school, then I thought, heck they're just taking up space.

They were one of the first things to go, and not just one customer taking them all. It was about 4-5 customers, each buying several boxes. I sold them for 0.25 each box.

Who knew pencils would be the big draw at a yard sale?

Meanwhile, no one even looked at all my maternity clothes.

My yard sale today was weird too. People were looking for fishing stuff and toys. But I sold all of my Stride gum!

I didn't HAVE a yard sale today...but I went to about 30 of them! Every year we go as often as we can...and every year, I find several sales where people are selling a box full of earrings for like $5 or something like that. This year, I started wearing earrings again...and NOBODY had ANY earrings for sale!!! Not even a few single pairs...and surely not a box of them. Now, I wish I had bought all of those that I saw last year!

Also, my husband is looking for tires for 2 cars. We always see people selling tires at garage sales. Not today!

I had my sale last week. Baby items are always a big seller here...not last weekend! Everyone was after the old golf clubs and the knick-knackie things, which never sell for me...Must be an off year! lol

Yeah, I was really surprised at how little baby clothing I sold. I worked really hard on it too. I had it sorted by size, by season and I even rubber-banded all the sets together, matched up pieces, etc.

My neighborhood does a community wide thing every other year, this was the off year. I didn't do it last year because I had a newborn and was too busy. So at least I'll already be prepared for next year, since what I have in baby stuff so far is sized and priced.

My stockpile items, I didn't take many, maybe 50-75 things, marked it all $1. It did well, so now seeing as I am newly unemployed, I will concentrated on building up a big stockpile to sell.

ETA: and pencils, I'll stockpile more pencils. Who wants to be I don't sell a single pack next year?

School and office supplies are just not on sale right now. I know I have been looking for a crayon deal for two months and nothing! I have also been looking for a cheap ballpoint pen deal for a couple of weeks and nothing!

Some children consignment store will take maternity clothing..and they can sell pretty decently on ebay as well.

Yup and agree...bizarre what will go and what will stay..the only guarantee I have...is that if DH is there and prices stuff...nothing goes LOL...so we do it when he's gone.

You guys arent making me look forward to my garage sale this coming week. We dont have the baby maternity things we used to so this is gonna be a whole new ballgame for me. Im worried its not going to go as well as it has in the past. And I have os much stuff that I think Im gonna run out of room.

But thanks to Congalady from a great secret pal swap I got my signs and stickers ready to go!

We had a yard sale this past weekend. Seems people want the "junk" before they want the good stuff :shrug7: oh well as long as they buy it!
We made $205. We did sell some kids clothes. For us the kids clothes goes pretty fast.
