I just heard that we are having a community garage sale in less than 2 weeks. Most of the stuff I would like to sell is in storage in another state. I also have about 1 box of FAR stuff like shampoo and toothpaste.

I was thinking about adding stuff to "fill out" my garage sale tables. Has anyone ever tried selling brownies, craft items or things like that? Since it is neighborhood-wide people will be walking all around. Should I try selling cans of pop or homemade popcorn?

We grilled hotdogs and had cans of soda. We sold the hotdogs and soda for 50cents each and made our money back plus profit. We had people lining up at the grill before the grill was even started....lol We also put out ketchup and mustard to use. This was also at a community yard sale and we were at the end of the street and it was a hot day so by the time people got to use they were ready to eat and drink. I have never tried baked goods but I bet they would sell..I think I will try it this year.

Hey thats a great idea on the snacks to sell! I never would have thought of that!
I have a church across the street that does daycare, so on thursday and friday mornings the whole street gets lined up with moms waiting to pick up their kids, so I am thinking this will be good for traffic at my sale, I will probably give it a shot this week!
I am thinking that I will start out a little higher on pricing and see how it goes, if it is no good I will lower as I go.
Right now I have in mind about $1 toothpaste, $1 toothbrushes, the oral b pulsars for $2, all the good razors I will try $3 or 2 for $5...shampoo/conditioner and body wash I will put at $2 each or 3 for $5?
Does this sound really high? I live on Long Island.

OOOhh good idea on the hot dogs. Ball Parks are BOGO at my grocery store this week too and I can get $0.69 buns at Aldi. I am also on the corner so I should be a high traffic area.

There were no good deals on hot dogs at the time so I got my hot dogs at Aldi's..I think they were 69 cents each just like the buns

Default Live, from my garage sale!

I couldn't find the other garage sale thread, so starting one here.

I started my stockpile sale today at 9, it's been only 4 hours, and already I made more than $400!
    Hot sellers:
    Razors 4.00, deodorant 1.00, shampoo 1.50, body wash 1.50, hair color 1.50, toothpaste 1.00, toothbrush 1.00, cleaning products 1.50, baby wipes 2.00, makeup 1.00, disp. cameras 3.00, watches 4.00.

Just getting a break now, it's been almost constant busy with customers.
Most people don't even try to haggle, they just pay what I ask. A few that did ask, I tell them the retail price is more than twice what I ask. But a few good customers that bought a lot I knocked off a few dollars when they asked.

One customer came in, a Chinese lady who speaks broken English. She wanted help finding products to clean (toilet, windows, kitchen) and shampoo.
After we found what she wanted, she then asked for a pen, and she wrote in Chinese on the product container! She also told me how to say it in Chinese, but I can't remember that. One thing she said that was interesting is that something that sounds like Dawn (dishwashing soap) means clean in Chinese.

Another customer came with a pair of shoes that she bought from me a year ago at my sale. She said that they didn't fit her son and she wanted to trade them for a larger pair. A Year Ago! :Poke: Excuse me, this isn't Target, and even if it was, they don't even let you return something after 90 days. And I don't have much of a stock of shoes anyway.

    Will report more later...

I thought I'd had some crazy yard sales, but I've never heard of someone trying to exchange some shoes.
