Why do I feel bad?

Okay, here's the story in a nutshell:

We listed furniture on Craigslist. We relist it every 48hours since those forums move so quick. After week #1, we dropped the price by $50. After week #2, we dropped the price another $50.

It's been on for over a month. Friday, a guy emails and offers us $300 (we were asking $400). We said okay, when can you come get it. He said Sunday and we said okay. We emailed him our address and asked him for what time he'd be coming so we could make plans for our day.

He emailed back and said Sunday is great and to call him if we had any questions. He didn't give his phone number and didn't answer me as to what time. So, I emailed him this morning - again asking what time he'd be coming.

45mins ago, someone else emailed and offered us full price & said they'd come tomorrow. We've emailed back & forth about 9 times, she gave us her cell # and everything. She'll be driving an hour and towing a trailer. I'm confident she'll show up.

So, I emailed the guy back & told him sorry, but we had a full price offer and the furniture is gone ......

Why do I feel bad?

Would you have done the same thing, or waited to see if he showed tomorrow????

I wouldn't feel bad. You really can't help that he wouldn't tell you what time or that he didn't give you a phone number. Also, I think it is very understandable that you took the better offer given the circumstances.

You did the right thing, no shows are notorious for craiglisters..heck I had 100% free formula I was giving away & they still no-showed.

I wouldn't feel bad. He didn't give you all the info to complete the transaction so its really null and void.

Nah, I don't think you should feel bad. That's the way things work on craigslist. I think you would feel a lot worse if you said no to a full price offer and then the guy didn't show up!

I would be concerned that he has your address but never replied with any personal information. Keep his email should something happen.

This part concerned me also as so many people get scammed in ways they thought innocent. By not giving you any of his personal information it seems like he is hiding from you. Did he give you a full name? Where he is from? If so you might want to check whitepages and see if he is listed in phone book.

As for feeling bad, no don't feel bad about the deal but be very careful especially if your house is empty very often. Might even want to contact local law enforcement and explain this to them so they will be on alert.
