Food pantry doesn't want my donation

I just called a food pantry that opened up about a mile from my home, making this the closest one to me and told them I wished to donate, they asked me what I had and I told them right now I have bbq sauce, salad dressings, marinades and jar baby food. I was told they couldn't use any of that. Its just not the things they give out. I was told I was welcome to get a list of items they give out on a regular basis. Now I understand that people who go to food pantry's don't always have meat for the sauces or fresh veggies for salads, but free food is free food and they have various uses. Now at other times through the year I will have other items to donate depending on sales and coupons but now I feel a little put off by them.

Call a church near you.They can tell you what churches do food pantries.That how I found places to donate to.

Yes, I would call some where else. That is crazy, I'm sure their are people that would actually take those items and use them!

I am VERY surprised about the baby food, especially. Have you called domestic violence shelters/women's shelters? I bet that they could really use that, especially.

Definately find another pantry. Sounds like this one is snooty and they really don't know how to run a pantry properly. They should never turn down donations. Yea they don't usually give that stuff out because they don't have it to give out DUH. Their loss is another pantries gain. We donate to 3 pantries and all of them would be happy with your donation. Don't give up, someone will appreciate it.
