Default Donation to food pantry

This may be small, and it may seem insignificant compared to some of the other great brags on this board, but I wanted to post it anyway. I started couponing about a month and a half ago. I decided to give back to the community and use my coupons to donate some food to the food pantry. The economy right now is really hard on a lot of families and if I can make a small difference, I want to do all I can.

I'm starting to think that this could be a good service project. It's something I like doing (couponing) and it helps the community, so why not? It's really gratifying to me to donate stuff to people in need. I see a lot of stuff that is FREE after coupons, but I pass it up because I won't eat it or use it- but now I want to get it so that I can give it to somebody else. What do you think? I only get a couple of inserts each week (from neighbors) and I trade on here when I can. Hopefully I can get a bunch of people to give me their inserts that they don't use. More coupons= more items! I wish I had more!

Total cost before coupons: $34.99
My total after coupons: $3.25

WTG! Every little bit helps, and the more people that help, will make a great difference.

Thanks for posting. Now I don't feel so bad about only donating a few boxes of cereal.

Thumbs Up Re: Donation to food pantry

Great job! I am happy to see someone who really cares. I plan on doing the same thing. I have a decent stockpile and after two more garage sales (trying to make up the difference in what I spent) I am going to donate to a food pantry as well.

I think that's GREAT!! To someone in need, every bit counts!
I am planning a drop-off on Wednesday morning to our local pantry.....had planned on doing it last week, but due to an appointment switch, I wasn't able to make it.

No gesture of kindness, no matter how small, is insignificant.

You're off to a great start! With the knowledge gained here you'll soon be bringing bags upon bags to the pantry. That's how it started with me. Had a little extra and wanted to share. Then realized how easy it was to get stuff free or super cheap that it became my focus. I'm now helping two food pantries, a community lunch program, and an animal shelter. Watch out, it can consume you!

By all means ask anybody and everybody you know if they have coupon inserts that they're not using. I have several different sources myself. Be sure to spread the wealth their way too and give them some of bargains you find. It's nice and it helps keep them motivated to help you.

Ugh, now I feel like jerk for sleeping in this morning and not hauling all this stuff I have to the food pantry.

Thanks for the support, everyone! Since I posted this in May, I've accumulated quite a bit of free stuff that I'm taking to some good family friends who are having a hard time financially right now. They have young children so all the school supplies and snacks are needed.
