so many places have been hit hard by the economy that every bit counts-just in our area alone donations are way down at the food pantry, homeless shelter, pregnancy centers and animal welfare places. I've heard that the pantry is so low they are turning people away, so anything you give helps a bunch.

Thanks for the support, everyone! Since I posted this in May, I've accumulated quite a bit of free stuff that I'm taking to some good family friends who are having a hard time financially right now. They have young children so all the school supplies and snacks are needed.
Oops, didn't realize this was a revived thread. That's very sweet of you. You're a good friend!

If you have a Staples Office supply store near you, you can get cheap school supplies there. Tomorrow's deal is pencil packs for a penny (limit 2) and reams of paper (also limit 2) for a penny AFTER rebate.

Any luck finding coupons sources? Have you checked your local newstand to see which papers they carry? They do differ in price. My best advice is to check on Saturdays. Some papers carry the Sundays inserts and ads in the Saturday paper and the price is much less. I get one paper that carries the SmartSource only and is .50 and another that carries all of them for $1.00.
You can give a horse a coupon, but you can't make it save.

That is great. My dd has vaca bible school this week. To get in, the kids are suppose to bring admission (each night has a different theme-tp, kool aid, cereal, pb & j). Thanks to HCW I can send extras....thanks to rc, advantage buy sale and qs for aligning for me to get .15 peanut butter.

that is very nice of you to do!! every little bit does count!

i just donated some h&b items to a local school...they are inviting families from the school to participate in a free garage sale giveaway...they are trying to help those that have been hit the hardest some of which are homeless...most of these people are in an area that does not have a pantry to go to...now if i find something that is free or almost free i pick it up for them....my next goal is some school items for the kids
