With the decline of the American dollar does it make sense to invest in international markets? Does anyone here have any advice or experience doing this? I was just thinking about what would happen to our investments if the dollar collapses. I was reading an article that some of the Victoria Secret models insist on being paid in euros (smart girls).

Investing in international markets can be done easely through mutual funds. For inexperienced investor I wouldn't recommend single country funds, especially in emerging markets.
If you do, do not put much hopes for spectacular returns as shown by some funds in the past, money are not as easy made in Europe and Asia as it was a couple years ago.

The fact that the dollar is so weak means your money won't buy as much in foreign markets, so they should be buying us which they are. Diversifying is the only way to play the market and like the previous posted said mutual funds is the easiest way to do that. Find a mutual fund with a good history of return and start putting money in every month if you don't have any foreign stocks in your portfolio. And I would be careful where you take your recommendations from I believe the big magazines are all paid to push certain funds, just like brokers.

And if the dollar colapses, we have a lot more to be worried about than our stocks.

One more factor against heavy investing in 3-rd world countries: volatility to to the political instability and not complete regulated financial markets.
True, if it goes up it flies 3xfaster then stable US issue, but we should keep in mind that when it comes down it does 6x.
May be OK for trading, but not for investments.

I would hesitate to invest in foreign stock at this point. I think that the Asian market is dependant upon Western consumers and at this point the Western consumer is broke and getting broker by the minute. I am buying foreign currencies but I am out of the market except for shorts and if you aren't an experenced daytrader I wouldn't advise you to be in shorts either. I recently lost over $8000 in one day on margin in a short position.

I noticed you said you were buying foreign currencies. Which specific currencies?
