Cottonelle sends me emails when the coupons are coming in the inserts. Last time I got the email, I bought 10 papers, got them home only to find out they were a lousy quarter.
Your post has been merged with the post for questions.

According to the Coupon Database there were two values for the Cottonelle coupons $0.25/1 and $1.00/1. Of course coupon values vary by region. You can of course try to trade for some of the $1.00/1 coupons.

Default Help me choose newspapers... NW NJ PLEASE!

I get the Sunday Star Ledger (just ok on coupons) and I already know the Morris Daily Record coupons aren't worth the price of the paper. A friend currently gives me her NYT coupons, but she is moving soon. I cannot get home delivery of many papers, but recently found a local QuikChek carries TONS of "foreign" papers.

Can anyone from NJ tell me which papers would give me the best coupons for my money, since I both need to spend gas to get there and each paper is at least $1, some more.

I know they have:

NYT
NY Daily News
NY Post
Sussex Herald
Bergen Record

There are others, but that is what I caught on a quick glance. Suggestions much appreciated and reps at the ready for thank yous!

Donna

Default Re: Help me choose newspapers... NW NJ PLEASE!

I rummage through my complex's recycling sheds here in central NJ. I am a subscriber to the Star Ledger too, and although the Courier News is the local county paper, I used to work for the Daily Record so I'm familiar with what they have.

This is what I get out of the sheds:
NY Daily News & the NY Post are OK. There are some different coupons in the inserts than we get in NJ, but there are fewer of pages in each insert, fewer coupons, & sometimes fewer inserts (like the Ledger will have 4 inserts & the NY Post will have only 3 that week). I'm happy to see these in the sheds for the different coupons, but I wouldn't subscribe for that reason.

NY Times, I was shocked to learn, actually has coupons. I used to subscribe for years & stopped because of the no coupons. I see NYT inserts in the sheds every so often, definitely not weekly. I think once every couple of months I'm surprised to discover a NYT insert. Notice it's singular.

Morris county's Daily Record is similar to the Somerset county's Courier News, which is what I frequently find in the sheds here. I wouldn't bother with this one because they have the same inserts as the Ledger, but fewer coupons in them. That is, each county paper insert has about 5-10 fewer coupons & more of those junk ads for bunion ointment & orthopedic shoes & Franklin Mint goodies.

The Star Ledger is hands down the best for coupons of this bunch. To mix things up, a NY paper might be worth your money to buy occasionally, but I wouldn't subscribe for the coupons.

I'm not familiar with Sussex Herald or the Bergen Record, but since they are county papers, I would suspect that what holds true for the Morris & Somerset county papers holds true for these too. Most of the county papers are similar. Now that I'm thinking about it, if you look at the spine of the insert, the distribution is listed & the county papers are usually together where the Newark Star Ledger always gets its own dedicated insert. The next time I conduct a recycling raid I'll note those down & post it somewhere on HCW so other NJ couponers can see what papers share inserts to avoid duplicate purchases if variety is what you're aiming for.

If you don't get much help here, you might get more response by posting a link to this thread in a forum where NJ shoppers hang out, like the ShopRite, A&P, Stop & Shop, & similar forums. I don't know what you have up in Sussex/Bergen counties.

ETA: it might be money better spent to strike up a deal with your newspaper delivery person for extra inserts than to buy 1 paper at $1+ & gas at who knows how much. You might get a ton of extra inserts for $5/week or $10/month or whatever seems fair to both of you.

Can you get the Philadelphia Enquirer? I'm in central nj and I find thatof all the papers the Star Ledger and the Enquirer are the best. The P&G is the same in all Papers as far as I know (atleast the East coast editions, I know others get the covergirl coupons). What are you not getting in the Star Ledger? I'd love to know if there is a better paper then the Ledger or the Enquirer!!!!! A lot of Walmarts sell the Enquirer or the Ledger for 99 cents to $1.25 on Saturday, I usually only can find these in South Jersey though!

Yes, the inserts can be different from region to region or even paper to paper.
