Default Re: question about the newspaper

We get the major paper daily, and read it thoroughly. We buy the local papers Saturday edition for .50, and it has the coupons in it.

One of the things you trade off to live in a less populated area, I guess.
Same here Diva..the local paper is $1.50! And the coupons SUCK:Cow:

I don't get the newspaper delivered at all. I will sometimes get the Sunday paper at the store if I know it's going to be a good one. Generally I just get the coupons from friends/family & trade for the ones I really want. We live in a small town & the only day there are coupons is Sunday.

We only get the Sunday. I usually pick it up at Walmart because they ring up for .50 a paper even on Sunday.

I notice a difference in all three. My local stinks quite often, and I find Columbus and Cinc. differ on what they offer. Of course I never find what was available back east. I wasn't much of a couponer then.

Does anyone order out of state / long distance papers and is it worth the price?? My husband thought we should order like a Boston or NY paper for Sun. delivery. I'm just not sure it would be cost effective.

Specialty newstands sell out of town papers. You can locate them in the yellow pages and call for details.

For most you have to order in advance at $4-6 per Sunday, and these editions often don't include their local ad or coupon inserts.

Ordering Sunday out of town papers was more common before widespread internet usage. Now it's more common to read old hometown news online.

Default Re: Recycling bin diving question...

Our local High School is collecting newspapers for recycle, if any of your's do ask them about getting inserts. I believe that some where along the line, all the non-newspaper type material has to be removed before reprocessing.

Even better encourage your schools to do the same...it teaches the kids to earn funds for extra curricular activities. At the school they have a dumpster just for papers, and the kids also collect in their neighborhoods....

i go to the local recycling bin here, so much fun, i usually leave gleeming from ear to ear.

one thing that i have done is made up a little flyer, you can either place them on the neighbors cars, mailboxes, or doors. explain what it is that you do and how it is so rewarding for you to benefit your local food pantry or shelters. i have several families that religiously leave me their inserts. as an appreciation i make them gift bags of some of my findings about once a month, this insures the deal of their continued support!!
