Welcome to the Hy-Vee FAQ and Policy thread! This is your place to start to learn how to get the most out of your Hy-Vee shopping. It will attempt to answer frequently asked questions about Hy-Vee and cover Hy-Vee coupon and store policies.

As I learn more and as you ask questions, I will keep updating it. (Thank you to previous mods, for the work you did!)

Where can I find the ad?

In some regions it comes in the mail or in the newspaper, but the most reliable way is to visit their Web site and choose your city. You'll probably be able to pick one up from a rack at the store. Note: the physical ad, from whatever source you get is, often has a partial page "wrap-around" ad not available on-line.

Can I view the ad early?

Maybe. The ad starts on different days in different cities. In Austin, Minnesota it starts on Sundays. So unless you live there, you can see the ad early. Just choose Austin, Minnesota at the link above.

Why aren't there simple start and end dates in the ad thread titles?

Well, the ad starts (and therefore ends) on different days in different cities. Austin, Minnesota is Sunday-Saturday. My area is Tuesday-Monday. Some places it starts Monday or Wednesday. I have no idea how to make a thread title that covers all that and is easy to read.

How do I know what days my ad runs?

View the ad on-line or get a paper copy and look at the dates on the front page. Then look at a calendar and translate that into days of the week.

Does Hy-Vee have Catalina promotions?

Yes! View our Catalina thread for more details and to post about the ones you find. Remember to also add them to the HCW coupon database.

Does Hy-Vee have store coupons?

Yes. They often appear in the chainwide ad. Also, different regions and towns have ads in the newspaper with sale prices and coupons good at "participating Hy-Vee locations." Remember to check the "It's Got to Be Real" thread specific to Hy-Vee store coupons if you find a coupon from other than these sources.

Can store coupons be combined with manufacturer coupons?

Yes, or at least most individual stores do allow this. Note: Some coupons that appear in the store ads are bot store coupons, but are manufacturer coupons and therefore cannot be combined with another manufacturer coupon.

5¢ Sack Discount
I have a nice collection of reusable sacks from the promotions this year around Earth Day. This makes it easier for me to remember to bring sacks. You can even bring in used plastic or paper sacks. It's good for the environment, and if the cashier is on the ball they'll give you a 5¢ credit per sack. Ask your local store if they have any restrictions. Discount on Gas
Some Hy-Vees have a gas station out front and you can use your Hy-Vee receipt to get a discount on gas. Discuss it here: Hy-Vee Gas Station

Hope this is allowed but there is a NEW Coupon Policy on the Hy-Vee website:

5/14/2009 Hy-Vee Coupon Policy Hy-Vee is happy to redeem your coupons. The following guidelines apply when presenting manufacturers’ coupons clipped from newspapers or magazines, received by mail, or obtained legitimately from the Internet: The coupon must be legible. The coupon must have a scannable bar code (UPC) and a remittable manufacturer’s address. Coupons with an expiration date must be used within the stated time frame. Expired coupons will not be accepted. Only one manufacturer coupon per item will be accepted; however, a customer may use a manufacturer’s coupon in combination with a Hy-Vee coupon on the same item. Coupon values that exceed the price of the item will not be accepted. Soft drink container caps will be accepted. Due to the unfortunate rise of counterfeit activity, the following two additional guidelines apply to Internet coupons: Manufacturer coupons that involve any kind of free product will not be accepted, including “buy one, get one free” offers. No coupon that exceeds $2.50 will be accepted.

I believe that you can get the item free but if you have more then one you get 1 free and the rest at shelf price.

It depends on the store. In Cedar Rapids, there's some stores that give the item for free if it rings up wrong, but others just give me the difference. Sometimes it just depends on the cashier and manager working that day.

It's worth watching though. I've not been as diligent as I should and I've been noticing lots of errors lately, but I often only realize it's an error when I get back home.

today was the first time i was shot down using both man and hyvee coupon, and it was not a man coupon from hyvee, i was trying to do the mayo deal and had 1.50/2 and 1/2 (hyvee) coupon. I have been couponing there for 2 1/2 years and this is the first time this has happened, they said it was always their policy, but the other cashiers must have been wrong in the past...:shrug7: to top it all off on of my other coupons didn't even get taken off, oh well, glad i don't use coupons at hyvee often, just normally go there for produce sales.
