Disappointed with Hy-Vee

I have finally found a really good coupon deal to do at my Hy-vee. The Snapps appetizers were on sale for $1 each and my store doubles on Tuesdays up to .50. So they would be free!!!!! First time I've had a free or almost free deal there since I've been doing q's.
I marched in there on Tuesday, so excited, with my 4 q's for my free stuff! Upon checking out, the cashier informed me that they could not double them because it would make the items free - WELL DUH, that's why I wanted to use them in the first place! I was so disappointed - I've been working so hard to find deals there because we live in the sticks and that is our only grocery store and Wally is 30 miles away and not worth driving there every week. I guess I think that is a crappy rule - if you are going to double q's up to .50 then it should be all of them, no matter what the price of the items are.
Anyway, I just had to vent - I get discouraged reading all the good deals on here because we live 90 miles from any Target, Walgreens, CVS, etc. so Hy-vee is really my only regular option and I was so excited to have found a good deal and then to get shot down was disappointing.

Mine doesn't double either. I am fed up with them for altogether different reasons. I also belong to another coupon site that has lists and they are my list store. Mind you they have a coupon in the ad stating that if you buy 2 hunts manwich you can get $1.00 off of their 80/20 ground beef. Please!!!!!!! Price Chopper has 93/7 ground beef on sale for 2.99 a lb. If I am going to buy it don't they think I will be buying the cheaper yet less fatty meat? There are very rarely any deals I do there because we don't eat a lot of processed meat.

See, we have no Price Chopper here. *shrug* But I hear ya, on the ground beef prices at Hy-Vee. I get my meat at my Fareway store. Even when Hy-Vee does have a good price on meat (like the recent 0.99/lb pork shoulder) I go to Fareway cause they automatically match Hy-Vee ad prices. You don't even have to take the ad it; just walk into the store and there are signs all over that say "as advertised," but they weren't in the Fareway ad, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, as my sig says... sometimes there are good deals at Hy-Vee.

wow, i've never had any problems like that at my hyvee, and it shouldn't matter if they make it free or not, the store shouldn't pick and choose when to follow their own policies, i would def talk to corporate about that.

my hyvee is across from walmart and has better prices then anywhere else in town. i only shop at the other stores when there is something on a really good ad price, and when i do i always scope the prices there and they are always tons higher then at hyvee. plus, to keep from having walmart price match them they always have everything on 'sale' so that way walmart price matches to the tag price but the price the customer pays, the sale price (not ad) is way lower. i actually hate whenever corporate puts stuff i buy in the ad because the store has to match the ad prices and they are always way higher then the normal sale price the store does.

Now that's funny. My SuperTarget is across the street from Wal-Mart and has the best prices on most things. Coffee filters are cheapest at Hy-Vee (unless they are on sale at Walgreens...).

I would shoot off an email to corporate. They are good about responding. Last time I complained to a manager I was given a gift card. IME, they are all about customer satisfaction. Let's us know what happens.

i think it's the competing factor, they know they have to keep good prices or they'll loose customers to walmart- but i'm not complaining! means better deals for me lol

I shop at my Hy-Vee all the time. I wish they doubled coupons here!!! I got a free deal on paper towels at mine a couple weeks ago. Bounty Basic was $1/2 and I had $1/2 q's...I had no problems doing that. I can't believe they said they wouldn't double b/c it would make them free. No doubt about it, I would be contacting someone.
