QUESTION Getting a Hyvee in Springfield?

    Hey

Ok, who knew there was a Hyvee being built in Springfield? I rarely get out on the south side of town. Now, I can't remember where I was, ha! I think it was at Battlefield and Kansas??

I see Hyvee mentioned here on HCW, but don't know anything about them. Do we think this is going to be a good thing? Giving Dillon's some competition?

I like Hyvee fine. They have some really nice one day sales and sales that are only on certain days of the week (Tuesdays in March), but I still save more at Dillons when they run their megas. They often put limits on stuff so you have to go through the register again for more than one or two of the good sales items.
Oh, and their coupon policy is stricter. No Bogo internet printables and no free printables. The also limit the dollar amount on printables too. So far though, no limits on any like some other stores do. My Hyvee also does double coupons on Tuesdays, but that is a store by store thing.

Thats fun! usually 3x per year they have something worth a darn. Huge MM last year on 5 boxes of cereal...free tidy cat litter match up (one time for 3 days)....free Farmland sausage just recently. Those are trips I know I made over the last 12 months.

I always shop at Dillons unless there is something super great going on there. They do double here on Tuesdays, just like Dillons, but rarely do they have as good of prices as Dillons...and FYI, they don't take Free's of any kinds (at least here) not even full color foil stamped frees lol

GOOD LUCK and I bet when they open they have some killer sales!
    If it isn't free.....it isn't for me!

There was a big fuss when our Hy Vee went in about a year ago. It HAS improved things overall. The competition caused other stores to do things, Dillons actually remodeled and expanded some things so they could have a shiny new store and a "grand opening" sale like Hy Vee (Ray's Apple Market did too). Wal Mart actually had 1/2 gallons of milk on sale for 99 cents when Hy Vee did. I like their Chinese food. As Rachelle said, I don't shop there super often. A lot of their loss leader deals or one day sales have a limit on them, and our Hy Vee doesn't double coupons at all.

Their produce though is really good, I think they try to go locally as much as possible and it's really high quality, and cheaper than Dillons almost every time. (one down side a local market stopped selling a lot of stuff because I think they now sell it all to Hy Vee) And I like their store brand stuff a LOT. My two favorite generic brands are Hy Vee and Up&Up at Target, if it's something I need right now or can't find cheaper anywhere else. They've also run good transfer Rx specials... making it easier for me to transfer somewhere and go back to Dillons when there are specials there. I'm the reason they make laws in some states about transferring prescriptions too often!

I've gotten several good MM deals there. Ziploc containers last year. Quaker oats and free fruit in January. Rocking cereal deal they had last summer and again in the fall (why can't we do that one again?). Tuesday I'm going on over for MM on Ziploc bags now. Our Hy Vee has Tuesday specials and one of them this month is 99 cent Ziploc bags, which also have a cat for $2 WYB 3. A bunch of sandwich bags I got last fall had qs in them... well about 1 in 5 did but you better believe I've now ripped open every last box!

On the subject of cats - they usually have a lot of the same ones as Dillons. That makes it kinda cool, you can choose wherever has the best price and coupon matchups.

Overall I would say grocery store competition is not a bad thing.

Last I'd heard, the Hyvee was going in across the street from Dillons W. Battlefield.

I also heard their supplier is different than all the other stores (Dillons, Price Cutter, Murfins). So what tends to go on sale at all of those stores will be a different sale at Hyvee. IDK, I guess we'll see!

Im waiting cautiously. HyVee was closer to Cutters prices when I used to live in SD.
I liked thier truckload sales, but that was before I was a big time couponer. Overall, it might step things up between Cutter and Dillons but like I said, Im tentative.

Its going in accross from Dillon's on Battlefield, saw it last night when I was going to the "big city" LOL
I am curious to see how it goes, will take some major deals for me to not shop at Dillions.

I didn't know the supplier was different, but yeah, their sales are usually totally different, on different items. They do decent coupon matchups, but overall not as good as Dillons. And the doubling/bumping of coupons, they don't do that (at least not here, I guess in some areas they do double on Tuesdays).

i would trade one of our hyvees to have a dillons back in town any day, lol! Their sales are nothing compared to dillons and their policy on store coupons and man. coupons together is sketchy and hit or miss which is annoying. That said the employees are super friendly, they often have unadvertised mark downs especially after a big sale and they have left over inventory. Like .50 malt o meal cereal, .99 cream of wheat which was free a/c, and .50 gatorade. Their produce and sale prices are pretty good, and my dh loves their chinese as a pp mentioned. Both the hyvees in my town are always always super busy and if it is a one or two day sale it is even worse, i guess people like hyvee because they built a second one a few years back and took out both the dillons in olathe. Hyvee is my second most favorite grocery store in my town, they would be my first if they would double coupons, but that is totally ymmv, and some do from what i've heard, because dillons is so prominent in springfield, they may do double coupons at the hyvee there, but as i've said, hyvee is always busy so they really don't need that incentive here to lure customers in.
