HyVee ~ Good Deal: Hy-vee - Smart Balance Milk deal!

Looked through the new ad this morning - saw Smart Balance Milk cartons on sale for $1.79.

I have 12 coupons for $2.00/one carton.

I called my store (Peoria, IL) and spoke with management to find out how the coupon would be handled when scanned at the register. I explained the product I wanted to buy and the coupons I wanted to use (so mgmt would know to expect other people to take advantage of the deal).
I didn't know if Hy-vee gave overage or would adjust down or if the clerk would just freak out on me or what.

Management called me back and said:

The registers aren't smart enough to notice that the product is less than the coupon amount - it shouldn't send up an alert.

They *know* they get the $2.00 from the manufacturer when they turn in the coupons. (Someone out there really knows!)

More than likely, you'll get the extra .21 (each) off and it'll come off your other groceries. (She said this, not me.)

It isn't a great idea to just do this deal without buying other groceries. Sending the register into the negative will throw up a red flag.

Very nice lady and very thorough job of checking into the situation. Hy-vee won some points with me!

I was just coming to post this deal.
Just so you know I bought a 1/2 gallon of this and the use by date on it is July 14 and it still is not sour so has a long shelf life after opened.

Before you head to the store...print up the ad page or make an online list with the milk on it.

My store did not have these marked on sale NOR did it ring up on sale in the register. I don't know why, perhaps because the store just opened and they're not up to speed on the sales?!?
Anyway, because I had printed my online list, which also listed the Peoria location at the top and the date the sale was good, they honored the sale price (someone named Jake in a supervisory position handled my situation).

Anyway, just wanted to give you a heads up!

(None of the other sale prices in the online ad were ringing up either...weird).

Also - Hy-vee carries Del Monte pineapple and they're on sale for $1.98 this sales period. I still had some pineapple coupons for .50 off so yay, pineapple for $1.48! MMMM (The 27th was the last day for this price, sorry if I got someone's hopes up! I just noticed the sales dates on the instore ad).

This seems to be a YMMV but here is there coupon policy from there web site. It does say that they will not take coupons that are over the amount of the item.

Hy-Vee is happy to redeem your coupons. The following rules apply when accepting vendor coupons clipped from newspapers or magazines, received by mail, or obtained legitimately from the internet:

The coupon must be legible.
The coupon should have a scannable bar code (UPC) and a remittable manufacturer’s address.
Coupons must have an expiration date and must be used within the stated time frame. Expired coupons will not be accepted.
Only one vendor coupon per item will be accepted. However, a customer may use a vendor coupon in combination with a Hy-Vee coupon on the same item.
Coupon values that exceed the price of the item will not be accepted.
Soft drink container caps will be accepted.
Due to increased fraud, the following two additional rules apply to internet coupons:

Vendor coupons that involve any kind of free product will not be accepted, including “buy one, get one free” offers.
A Store Director has authority to set monetary limitations (for example, $2.50 per coupon) for the acceptance of internet coupons at the Store Director’s store.

Yeah, I did see that. I'd actually called the store first because I forgot I had the policy printed in my binder.

If the store is willing to accept the coupon, then I'm not going to argue with them. Since I talked to a member of managment, who then conferred with another member of management to be certain, and then I further clarified that this was okay and that I wouldn't be getting a clerk in trouble at check-out, then I'm going to go on their word that, for this store anyway, it's okay. YMMV.
