Has anyone else noticed...

before Hy-Vee started their new circulars approx. 2 months ago, almost every week there would be an additional flyer or even more than once a week for store specific sales, 3 day sales, crazy 8 sales, holiday specific sales, etc. Do those seem to suddenly be few and far between in your area?

We have a 3 day sale flier in ours today! How did HyVee change their ads?

I get the 3day inserts (well I look at the ad online and plan and get the hard copy at the store) but never got any of the others you mentioned (holiday and crazy 8?) I noticed they're doing the 10/$10 again this week, hadn't seen that for awhile (or errr, was that County Market?) I didn't even go last week, last week's deals were bad everywhere!

My understanding is that they declared "war" on Wal-Mart and beefed up their weekly ads (not sure how true this is). Anyway, they split their ads into 2 sections, one paper and one online only. I don't know, they're just...different. Not sure how to explain it.

Anyway, the extra ads were usually just one piece of paper with "event specific" promotions.

OK...I'll quit bumbling now. Maybe I shouldn't have brought it up cuz maybe it's just me and noone else knows what the heck I'm talking about.

Yes. I think those seem to suddenly be few ad far between in my area.

Yea the online ad is usually the same for the first couple of pages and then it has other deals not advertised in the print flier. I look at both online before I go to the store since I don't even get hard copies here. O but our HyVee does usually have a one-page ad on the back of the free shopper paper they deliver to everyone in the area-last week it had an awesome Pepsi q to get 4 12packs for $9 and this week the q is to get Coke 2 liters at .80 when you buy 5. I love any soda qs It also has on this ad:

Anyone else get an ad like that? We get one every Tues but on a rare week there isn't one O and I'm glad if they did declare war on Walmart-I rarely have to go there anymore because now I have HyVee

Oh I did see the online thing on my AD. However I just use my Hy-Vee ad to pricematch at Walmart because HyVee is 30 minutes away (different town.) It is such a nice store though.

There do seem to be fewer here too. The back page of our paper has additional sale items for Hy-vee one week and Fareway the next. Lately they have not been very good sales.

They run a tiny ad each week in the free classified paper that is wrapped around the HyVee ad when it is delivered to our door.

This week:
10% off your entire order of fresh bakery products, cakes & deserts, packaged buns and breads, crisp produce items, fruit & Vegetable platters, creative kitchen dishes, crackers, dips & sauces, bulk salads to full meals, and self serve to full catering.
Offer valid until 5/2/09

I'm going to call and see what price I can get 10 loaves of bread, 4 packages of hamburger buns and 3 packages of hot dog buns for ...and then I'll have to go reorganize the deep freeze

I agree with OP. Store specific ads in my area (SE Iowa) have gotten fewer and farther between since the first of this year. Like PP, my store used to run a full page ad in the free 'shopper' almost every week. Not doing it so often anymore and when they do have a local ad, it's for something that I can't do q matchups with. Lots of local sales here on deli salads/sandwiches and fresh pizza items. I think sales here are hurting in those departments. Deli and kitchen operating hours have been cut back recently.

I thought HV was probably trying to cut marketing costs by going to a smaller print ad and driving traffic to their website. But a war with Walmart is fine by me. In my area, the perception is that Walmart is cheaper...though I wouldn't say that is always the reality.
