| Hy-Vee Gas Station Does your Hy-Vee have a gas station?
Mine has had one for awhile. There is always a sign when I walk into Hy-Vee that says to take your Hy-Vee receipt over there and use it to get a such-and-such discount. It's always changing.
I've never done it. I have a Mastercard that I earn 3% on when I use it at certain (not Hy-Vee) gas stations. With gas at about $4, that's a 12 cent a gallon discount. Hy-Vee's discount is usually like 6 cents.
For those of you who have done it, I guess you have to be careful there was nothing on that receipt you needed for a rebate or to submit to your flex plan, hunh?

| Re: Hy-Vee Gas Station Oh, I'm glad to hear they don't take it!
I still get a better discount elsewhere.
This could be good for some folks, though.

| Re: Hy-Vee Gas Station That would be great, nmcg22, but the credit card only gives me the 3% gas rebate at 66, 76, and Conoco stores. I get 1% on regular purchases at say Target, Hy-Vee, or day care. I think I get 0% at competing gas stations, but it may be the 1%. Hmmm, I may have to double check... If it is the 1%, and the receipt deal of the day is good enough to make up for the loss of the 2%... but the 1% would be off the price after the receipt discount... I could set up a spreadsheet to tell me where the tipping point is...
I'll let you know!

| Re: Hy-Vee Gas Station Our gas discount depends on the amount you spend at Hy-Vee. Less than $50 is $.03/gallon, $50-100 is $.06/gallon, and $100+ is $.10/gallon. I don't get any other discount on gas from anything else, so I usually just put gas in on Sunday when I buy groceries. My tank is never full, never empty. Every sunday I put in about $30 of gas. I WAH, and drive very little, so this works for me.
Before I started being more grocery savvy and stockpiling, I would regularly spend over $100, and so I would also often give the receipt to my DH as he goes through exponentially more gas than I do, but now with rarely spending even $50, I just use it myself. If he wants the discount he just buys a soda and then uses the coupon to buy gas... it IS $.01-$49.99 that you get the $.03 discount. haha!
At our HV gas they used to put their intials on the receipt, but they haven't done that in ages, so if I DO happen to spend more, like this weekend, then I get my gas and give the receipt to DH to get his own gas at a discount. If they took the receipt then I wouldn't be able to use it since I have to keep all grocery receipts since I run a home daycare. |
