If you have several plastic food containers that are a similar size, number the container and the lid with permanent marker. No more scrambling to find the right lid to fit the container. I sort them into stacks of round containers or square containers.

My dishwasher leaves spots on my pots, not on anything else, just pots. Any ideas? I've made sure to keep it filled with jet dry, but it doesnt work and that stuff is expensive anyway.

I know this isn't a kitchen tip, but given all of the posts about microfiber...just wanted to pass on this tip. Wash your face with it. You can't BELIEVE what that will get off your skin!

Any low cost cooktop cleaning solutions? Those Scotch Brite things are nice, but pricey!

I take Washing Soda mixed with a little bit of borax and some warm water. I have this in a little bowl...water is about 2-3 inches high. I just toss my sponge in there and let her soak. DH is deathly afraid of the "Stinky sponge". It's a great deodorizer.

The same water "solution" can be used to wipe down counters very well. Just ensure it is ALL wiped up or it may leave a bit of white residue.

Tip for Garlic my Dad taught me - Some of you may know..but most people I talk to don't know about it. Best way to peel it...is to microwave it for 10 seconds and ONLY 10 seconds. I pull it out and give it a gentle smoosh with the flat side of my knife and the peel comes off like butter.

Default Ready, Set, Joe! - coffee gift idea

I found this thing by Melitta to make one cup of drip coffee - not instant. This kind (below) is plastic and was $2 @ my Acme. I saw them at Shoprite for $6 but they were ceramic and came with either a ceramic mug or travel cup. I am going to add one of these $2 ones when I give people flavored coffees as gifts. Then they can make a cup of whatever they like and not a potful. Getting one for DD in dorm too.
These Ready Set Joes come with five #2 Melitta filters to get them started. you can google it to see the different varieties.
I just love the name of it

The best towels I've found are free! My father-in-law works at several hospitals...anyway, they can only use their towels once before they get thrown away. There's nothing wrong with them! He brings them home, we wash them in hot water with bleach and they work wonderful. Soak up a ton for their size. They're kinda rough, so they scrub nicely too. I put them at the end of the swiffer and use them to dust mop (so much cheaper than swiffer refills). And every time I wash them they still come out looking good. And they're blue, so I can use them in my kitchen too (no neon colors, please). These babies have been used for everything from dusters to pot holders, I just don't think I'd clean a mirror with them.

I put my sponge in the dishwasher about every 2 weeks. I always cut my sponges in half so they last longer. And I get a new half out every 4-8 weeks depending on if the Brillo part is falling off yet.
