They have good directions for this on youtube- just search for newspaper seed starting pots

It's really easy and I use a can/jar as the form

Just make sure that when you plant to have all the newspaper under the soil or it could wick the moisture out.

I thought about doing that but worried that some poor soul would buy them expecting coupons and there wouldn't be any (newbie/part-time couponer who doesn't know to check.)

Lot's of ideas I never thought about! DH wants to expand the garden and was talking about getting that black fabric liner to block weeds and i never knew we could use the newspapers!

(Regarding the fire logs - we already burn wood, so I don't think newspapers would be worse. In my area there are even a lot of wood-burning furnaces. I haven't found much on GOOD logs - most say the logs are good to add to an already burning wood fire, not good by themselves.)

We mostly recycle ours. Come any gift-giving time, however, we always use whatever papers are lying in the recycle bin to wrap our gifts. I like making crazy bows out of the newspaper, too.

I use newspapers to cover my outdoor plants, when it freezes during the night.

I use em to start fires, and i have rolled them into logs a few times. We usually recycle most of them, use others for table protectors and craft projects and occasionally hubby uses them to drain deep fried things on (food is on a cooling rack over the paper).

If you don't have recycling in your area, newspaper is compostable or if you have a garden you can use it to help keep weeds down. Just google lasagna gardening.

I use them in my animal cages. I have birds and sugar gliders, so it works perfect for their drop trays.

Great usage for kid's papier mache or for an extra "boost" in mailing boxes. Next best thing to bubble wrap.

You have a sugar glider?! I've always wanted one!
I use them to clean windows. It sure beats buying paper towels all the time. And I keep the old sales papers for a sales cycle reference.

We have curbside recycling so that is where most of mine go. If I happen to buy an extra paper at work, I just leave it in the lunchroom for others to read. The sport section seems to be the most popular one though - followed by the comics. Nobody really wants to read the actual news these days because it all all bad news anyway.

We did use a few to mulch the garden and I put a few under the cat box. My son made the seed starter pots once and they do work pretty good. I sometimes use papers under messy craft projects that I am doing so that I don't make a mess of the table.

Homemade firestarters are a fun project for Scouts and other youth groups. I understand the firelogs only work well if you roll the papers supertight - which I can't do well with my old arthritic hands.

That is a good idea about checking with the local Humane society to see if they need some!
