HELP How to get cats to stop going to the bathroom in our front yard?

My husband has worked so hard these last few weeks fixing up the front yard. He planted 4 new rose bushes and put mulch down along the front of the house and in another area where the roses bushes are already established he put down pebble sized rock and the neighborhood cats think it's their new litter box!

Does anyone have something they have tried for this and it definitely worked for them?

I am so frustrated and I feel bad for my DH. He's been out there every weekend all weekend for the past month killing himself to make everything look purty for me and the cats are ruining it.

For my garden I put upside down plastic forks in the ground and cover with dirt and when they step on them it causes a uncomfortable feeling in their paws so they run away. They no longer use my gardens as a littler box.
NOTE: Not a cat hater but a run my fingers through poo when gardening hater. ;-)

Not a true and tried but my mil will put moth balls in certain areas of her basement that she doesn't want her cat to be loungeing around and seems to work they or at least her cat don't like the smell of moth balls not sure how that would work being out doors. Best of luck in your sittuation sounds like you gott a reallt good hubby :) Your lawn sounds like it looks really purrty I hope you will find somthing to keep them puutty cats from ruining it.

    Get a dog!

Seriously, you might check the pet store. They make a spray for dogs that you spray in areas that you prefer them to potty in. They might make something for cats. Then dress in black & go spray the owner's yard around 2am.

I've heard the plastic forks thing before, but not the moth balls. Interesting.

moth balls worked great in my front flower bed even in rainy, humid FL. They were very inexpensive also.!

Thank you for the suggestions so far! I have passed the moth bolls and plastic fork ideas to my husband. :)

Just don't bring the moth balls into the house...they stink like crazy! We have them under our porch to keep all sorts of pests away.

IMO I would not use mothballs. They are toxic to pets and children. The plastic fork idea is a good one.

You can spread citrus peels around; cats don't like the smell. You do need to replace them every week or so as they dry up. There are also many repellent products out there, like Liquid Fence.

Sprinkle catnip in your neighbor's yard? (Just kidding!) I've heard that ammonia will make them stay away. Put it in a spray bottle and mist it on the ground. This was also a tip to keep dogs from jumping up and putting their paws on the windowsill. Just stand upwind when you spray! I've heard of the mothball thing before, but not the plastic forks. And mothballs were on clearance at Kroger!
