my mother would use coffee grounds mixed with orange peels, but it's probably an old wives' tale, and i'm not sure if it even works.

You can borrow my mastiff, he HATES cats

And I would imagine that ammonia (which is a componant of their urine) would not work. They make some pretty good repellents you can get at petstores (Like Four Paws' Keep Off and Boundry) if you are desperate.

If they are going in the SAME spot (such as next to a bush) maybe try double sided tape. They hate the feeling on their paws and they remember where it is.

    Good luck.

We have 3 Jack Russells so they keep all the cats out of the backyard lol. The front yard is a different story. I am going to try the moth balls mixed with the forks. My dogs don't go out front unless we are walking them on a leash. I seriously doubt an animal would even try to eat a moth ball just from how potent the smell is, but thanks for the advice on that. :) Man I hope this works.

Do NOT put ammonia down as it can make cats EXTREMELY ill very very quickly if they happen to get it on their paws and lick it off. Furthermore, because their urine has so much ammonia in it, putting anything that is ammonia-based will only attract them as it smells like another cat that they will need to mark over.

I would definitely recommend putting down citrus peel, or even banana peels. My cats can't stand either of them. I have 7, and if I eat a banana, none of the cats will hang out in my vincinity for a while. Might be worth looking in too.
