Getting high tech with organizing your stockpile

I'm looking for an app to have the contents of my stockpile on my ipod to be with me while I'm shopping. My fiance is always asking "well how many do we have already" and it's getting frustrating.

Does anyone use apps to organize their stockpile? If so, any recommendations?

My hubby looked for one for me (he's always asking the same thing) but didn't find anything that was particularly good. Unfortunately, while he's a computer programer, he doesn't know how to make aps for either Android or Iphone. But he is working on something for me to keep at home.

It's a barcode scanner (like at the library) that plugs into a computer. I can then scan all of my items as I unpack them each week before I put them in my stockpile. Then scan them out again when they are used.

Don't get too excited though, it's still in the early stages. He's got the base programing done, but hasn't had time to set it up and teach me to use it yet. After I've used it for a month or so he'll ask me what bugs to work out. He'll have to go back and fix those. We'll have to see what happens after that.

That is awesome. If you ever decide to sell some of those let us know. I have been wanting something like that for at home. I am not rich enough to afford a smartphone, lol and don't want one anyway. But would love to have the scanner.

If you have an Android, there's an app called Grocery Tracker that you can use to keep tabs on what is in your stockpile. It works with the scanner, but it doesn't always find a match in it's database. It does a pretty good job, but like anything - you have to keep up with it. That's where I stumble.

I would love something like this. I would want it to have an alert when an expiration date is getting near.

unfortunately, bar codes don't change with ex dates. So you would have to manually input any ex dates into the program and then go back to find them and take those ones out when you used them. it would make the program too cumbersome and people would get annoyed with it.
