You're a genius!!! I haven't frozen any cheese for awhile, but I'll try this the next time I do!
so i took an 8 oz block of mild cheddar..(kraft) thats been frozen for ??? and i was tired of using them all for crumbles in what ever! so i got the bright idea .... hmmmm ... wonder..... well i nuked it in the microwave for 30 seconds.
.in package . it did start to melt on the edges... (next time i try it for 25) and put it back in the fridge... waited till it was cooled and took it out and cut it ... no crumbles!!! i cut it in half and i use an old egg slicer metal thingy that the plastic egg holder broke off to slice the cheese into pieces that are just super for us.... so what cha think?

Wow! That's brilliant! Would it crumble everywhere if you took it out of the package first? Is that why you did it like that?

kept it in pkg in case of melting , which it did.. but i wanted it all sealed up.. thinking i could change the texture back to normal... any way not sure exactly why , but it did work! i promise... even the melted edge firmed right up and with my handy dandy little slicer, sliced right with the rest..![]()
to share my idea with more of my hcw buddies!
Nice idea! I am always freezing cheese when I find a sale, but I have not been buying the blocks because all the crumblies.

I'm going to try this. I always buy block. I don't like the taste of the shredded as much. But I do have the same problem with block cheddar. Mozzarella seems to be fine but the cheddar does crumble when you try to shred it. I usually just deal with it as typically we are using it in a recipe that requires shredding anyway. I am going to give this a shot and then try shredding. Hopefully it will help! TY OP!!!
