    Thank OP,

I tried it a couple weeks ago and it worked like a charm. I had forgot to take it out the night before for my party, to go with my crackers.

I use my blender to grate hard cheese. I cut it into cubes or small chunks, sprinkle in a bit of corn starch to keep it from sticking (though if it's dry and crumbly, you may not need it), and pulse. It grates it into small crumbles suitable for sprinkling. I have a Vitamix, though, so I'm not sure if a regular blender would accomplish the same. Anyone up for an experiment? I don't know why it wouldn't work since I don't use the super high speed to do it.

Any concerns over microwaving the plastic which is in contact with the cheese?
Sure is tempting, but I'm not sure I'd want to do that

I do this all the time. In fact, I did it just today while making my cheesy cornbread for the chili pie topping. Depending on the cheese, you have to be careful of it crumbling up. I find that it is easier to shred when still frozen. Every time I would do it straight from the fridge, it would start getting a little too soft.
