I doubt it will hurt the dryer any but beware of too much moisture in the air. It could cause mold and/or mildew.
This is what happened. My dryer hose fell off from the back of the dryer. I noticed when I walked in the laundry room and it was really steamy and hot after running the dryer. I thought well it is cold outside, we have the heat on, so why not just leave it unattached and heat the house when the dryer is in use. Is this a crazy idea or could this hurt the dryer in any way? Any opinions??

Won't hurt your dyer.
I'm assuming this is for an electric dryer....
Will add a ton of moisture into your home. Might not be too bad if you just use it once a day or so...but IMO continuous use of your dyer...your going to ad so much moisture to your home ...your risking mold and mildew problems especially in the laundry room.

They make an attachment to your dryer hose that lets the heat into the house. They are about $10 at home or box stores. But, when we had our house winterized and a sort of inspection for this winterization program from the Obama stimulus package...that guy said it is not a good idea because of the moisture it puts out. He showed us where we already had a little mold starting, so we unhooked it.
If you leave the hose off, not only will you get extra moisture in the house, you'll also all the extra lint that doesn't get caught in the trap will blow back in the house.

You might find the house a little dustier - or lint-ier - but it's a good idea, especially if you live in a very dry area and need some humidity.

Yes it is an electric dryer and I should of mentioned that I only use the dryer for about 10 minutes at a time about every other day. I hang just about everything and dry the stuff that gets wrinkled easily for about 10 minutes and then let it air dry the rest of the way.
I don't really see the harm in 10 minutes..
Keep an eye on your drywall..and if you have any wood near by it is apt to swell a bit.
