HELP *HELP* iPhone contacts -how to back up on computer w/iTunes ???

I am so lost! I read on Apples website the instructions for backing up your iPhone contacts to the computer. It says you need to install iTunes (did it), and have some "contacts" format on the computer (outlook, windows contacts, live id, etc). I created a live.com account for this purpose as i don't have outlook.

I am logged into live.com. I plugged the phone in, it shows it syncing with iTunes and asked me what i want to do. I select to back up contacts and select "live" as the format. It looks like its doing it. But then i go into my cntact in Live and it shows no contacts. What am I doing wrong???

Any other suggestions? Is there another format other than live that works (besides outlook)

It sounds complicated. When I first synced my iPhone with my iTunes, it automatically backed up all that information as well as installing all my computer bookmarks on my phone-- none of which I wanted to do. I had to select something like "manually manage" for it not to do this.

All of this useless stuff to ask if maybe you have the option to manually manage your stuff checked in iTunes because otherwise (IME) it backed up all that stuff automatically.

Good luck getting it sorted out. There is an online group called Community Feedback (google it) that I have used for years as my online tech support for all issues tech related regardless of brand or operating system. If nothing else, it might be worth asking there.
