HELP!! Oil/Tar on carpet!! Any ideas??

My dh tracked some type of tar or oil into the house all over the carpet! I used my regular oxy solution that always seems to get everything out of the carpet... not this time. In fact, if anything it made it worse.

I know they use dawn to get the oil off birds from spills because it cuts grease and is gentle. Will this work? Any other products/ ideas? I hate to keep rubbing it in... I need a single solution so I don't keep making it worse!!

Ok, I just tried dawn. It's still wet so hard to tell, but looks like it may have worked! Crossing fingers!

wd40/goo gone and paper towel gets it slippery so tacky can be picked up w/ paper towel

head and shoulders - pour it on, let it soak and then mop it up with a wet towel. This happened to us a couple years ago and I could not believe it worked.
