Personally, I have always rinsed my hair and body in cool water before getting out of the shower. My hair is never oily or dry for that matter and seems to be more manageable. Also, about once a week I have always used hair conditioner on my body before rinsing off in cool water. As a result, I don't have to purchase lotions (unless I just want the scented ones that I just like to wear) for dry or oily skin. I save money on the more expensive lotions and still have normal, baby soft skin. Another money saver: Use hair conditioner for shaving cream.

I had to reply because I am so jealous you have "undamaged hair" LOL I color my hair and in the past I have highlighted it. I also now get a smoothing treatmentdone (which I LOVE) . One thing I learned when researching my smoothing treatment is about Sulfates in Shampoo's. They are very bad for your health so now I use sulfate free shampoo's. Some sulfate free shampoo's are tough to get used to becasue they don't "lather" as much as those with sulfates but they are much healthier for you. Ulta sells their own brand for really cheap and now loreal has their Everstrong brand which I have not tried but may someday. Also about the not washing everyday I am so trying to do this but my hair gets a bit greasey, supposedly after a few months my hair will adapt so for now I am trying to skip washing at least two days a week then maybe more if my hair "adapts" .

The new Pantene line, flat to volume, is the first OTC shampoo I've been able to use in 20 years, it's close to my reg shampoo, but still not perfect...can't use conditioners, or my hair is a flat icky mess & won't do anything. Prior to finding the pantene line, I used (and still do until it's gone) Matrix Alternate action, clarifying shampoo..they stopped making it..sniff..when they quit, I found a gallon online for $60 & it has lasted me about 2-3 years so far...still have quite a bit left. I have to wash every day. I ask for damage to my hair when highlighting, otherwise I can't do anything with it.

I use John Frieda Blonde to keep my hair from being brassy, and on off days I use any old thing. Conditioner is what I have to be careful about and buy from the salon. Most things weigh my hair down.
My stylist agrees with something a PP said-Pantene is the WORST.
Funny how different things work for different people.

Pantene is my fave. I've often heard too that it has a lot of wax in it. So? Is that bad for your hair? It sure makes it looks good. As long as you use something to clarify once a week or so is it doing any damage to your hair? I always thought the hair stylists were just trying to scare me into buying their expensive stuff - which I have in the past and not liked at all.

I do the pantene 2 in 1. I'm too lazy to spend an extra 5 minutes using a separate conditioner! Besides conditioners seems to make my hair look oily faster. ( I have straight hair that used to be very black but has some grey in it now. And less shine as I get older too.

I think salons push the expensive brands because they sell those expensive brands.... If you can wax your floor with Suave and Pantene and Garnier, then in my mind, you can also wax your floor with Biolage, Matrix and Redkin :) I see no difference.... Suave works just as well as Redkin in my book.. However I do use a clarifying shampoo once every few weeks to get rid of any building from products, shampoo, etc... But I think you would get that buildup, regardless of whether it's a salon brand or a store brand.

Rinse with vinegar after you shampoo and condition...vinegar adds shine.... Also, if you let really cold water run over your hair after your done shampooing and conditioning - that helps create shine.

Hot water while shampooing and conditioning......cold water rinses at the end... The hot water opens the hair folicles, the cold water closes them. :)
