Default How do you get that MMMM laundry smell?

First off, I will start with...we are not gross people :) The clothes I am washing do no stink in the first place....so my question to you experts is this.

How do you get your laundry to smell REALLY good. I use All, tide or purex. And started using fabric softener (since I started couponing). I usually toss in 1 dryer sheet...still doesn't give it that great scent. I also got a bounce bar, which did nothing. And now sometimes i toss in 2 dryer sheets.

What irks me...is that there is a LITTLE scent in the towels and clothes, but barely noticeable....yet when I am out and about I sometimes walk by someone and they SMELL like fresh laundry. I WANT my clothes to smell that fresh! How do you ya do it???? :)
    If it isn't free.....it isn't for me!

Did you towels sit in the wash machine for hours or overnight? I have done that. I live in AZ with our washer and dryer in the garage, so when its 110 outside its warm in the garage. My towels had a funky smell. I washed them in vineager. It took that smell out.

My favorite laundry soap is Tide - Ocean Breeze or Mountain Breeze its called, can't remember off hand, but I just love the smell of my clothes.
I use snuggle in the blue bottle. I don't like any of that exhilarations stuff-yuk.
I have multiples of each weeks inserts. PM me for easy trades. I just might have what your needing.

It is more expensive to do it this way but I use liquid fabric softener, and 2 dryer sheets per load. Of course I get it on sale so it isn't really that expensive, LOL I use Downy if I can get it cheap but lately it's been snuggle for the last few months. I use a whole cap full of it. I think Tide is the best but I can't afford it. My clothes smell very good and are so soft.

Too much fabric softener leaves a residue on your clothes which can make them look dingy faster. The stuff that leaves that great scent on your clothes and towels is oil based and does not wash off your clothing, hence leaving the smell on your laundry.

So, IMO that fresh clean scent is overrated if it makes your clothes look dingy.

One trick my Aunt taught me was to line your drawers and linen closet with dryer sheets so that they get the scent without using a whole bunch of fabric softener on your clothes. You might try that if you just MUST have that April Fresh scent.

Thanks for the tips. I'm not so concerned about the clothes, if they smell good, that's fun, but I would love to have those towels and sheets smell awesome for several days! I just got several liquid Snuggle, so maybe that will do the trick.

I notice other people's clothes smell good, but ours don't. Unless I use a new detergent or softener. I think you get used to the smell of your own clothes and you don't notice it anymore. Considering I am the one who washes and folds the clothes, I don't smell it any time after that. But, I have had someone say that the clothes smell good.

I have also walked near someone whose clothes smelled like laundry and I think they just used extra.

When DH does the laundry, they smell really strong, for days. I don't like alot of scent, so I use less than 1/2 a capfull of detergent, and just a spoonful or two of softner.

I've seen DH put 2 capfulls of detergent in. But hey, if I don't have to do the laundry, I'm not complaining.

I totally know what you're talking about! I have found Wisk makes my laundry smell really good! I use that with the blue box of Snuggle dryer sheets and have finally captured "that smell". HTH!

The only laundry detergent that I've ever gotten that "WOW" smell with were:

Tide w/ Febreze OR Arm & Hammer Mountain Breeze

Tide w/ Febreze is awesome, but a little pricey. I've found another detergent that has a strong, but great smell is the Arm & Hammer.

As far as dryer sheets, I prefer Arm & Hammer or Snuggle Blue Sparkle...but the above detergents work GREAT, I usually use a little more than they recommend though.

Oh, and another tip...when you store clothes or sheets, store them tightly in a space bag or tub with a couple dryer sheets right after they've been washed. They will smell just as fresh when you go to pull out summer or winter clothes 6 months later!
