I just started making my own laundry soap. I use powder. I still use fabric softener, but I may switch to vinegar. Really, it got to the point where my clothes smelled ok but my towels had a smell like they were not clean. I'm going to give the new stuff a few weeks and see how that goes. I don't want the really smelly stuff, I just want them to not smell dirty!

I can only use tide original scent (or my dd breaks out all over) I also use either snuggle, downy,or suavitel fabric softner my clothes smell fresh everytime but not overpowering

Another tip that i do is to take leftover scented candle bits n pieces ( i love the fresh linen scented ones) and put them in a small mesh bag in each drawer

i didnt read all the comments, only the first page. ill just tell you what i have done.

i like the mountain or after rain scent-- they smell fresher and less perfumy to me.

Up until recently ive always only used fabric softener sheets. Being non wealthy ive always opted for cheaper stuff. Ive never used tide.. i mean.. NEVER. until recently. ive never used anything OTHER than stuff like XTRA, and the other brands that are low on the food chain. Since purex came out, ive used that and was happy for the longest time.

Add in coupons. i bought some gain fabric softener liquid( thought it was detergent at first!) used it along with my purex.. wow. it does smell good. the liquid DOES make a difference, however i still use the sheets.

Add in tide stain release, i put that in the drum of my washer for every load now, along with my fabric softener and detergent. HOLY crap. .. the smell just.. i dont know.. it MAKES ME HAPPY! i have still been using the sheets.

So now i am hooked on liquid softeners. but do try the stain release, i got my mom to try it and she says she thinks it smells really good on the clothes too.
