HELP Desperately need help on getting rid of pet urine smell!

Okay, our puppy has two favorite spots-our bedroom closet and our whole living room. Despite pee pads, he has missed the spot and peed on our carpet numerous times. Luckily, he is mostly transitioned to going outside and we have few potty issues anymore.

Our living room currently REEKS and our bedroom is starting to. I am embarrassed to have anyone over because the living room smells so bad. I am going through cans of air fresheners and all sorts of good smelling things, all to no avail. I need to get down to the carpet level, though I don't know what will work.

Our carpet was replaced the day we moved in, so replacing it is not an option.

Money is no objective here. I'll do whatever I have to do, buy whatever I have to buy, in order to get rid of these smells. I am looking for tried and tested suggestions here, so if you have experience with this, please please please let me know what worked, if anything at all!

    Thanks for any/all advice.

There is a product called urine gone it is sold in the as seen on tv section in walmart.
To make sure you get all of the urine that is causing the smell, buy a black light.
Close off all the windows and lights and use the black light to find all of the urine spots, spray them with the urine gone until they fade away! right before your "blacklight eyes'

It destroys the urine biologically breaking it down. The blacklight allows you to see every drop!

The reviews I've read on Urine Gone aren't that good. Nature's Miracle seems to be getting decent reviews though...

    Try what others suggest first.

If that doesn't work have a carpet cleaning service come and pull up the carpet. Replace the pad where the puppy peed (pad is super cheap) and then have them clean the bottom of the carpet (where the pad and carpet meet) and let it dry then come back and relay the carpet and have them clean with antibacterial stuff on the top.

I have heard that vinegar works. I am not sure, I dont like the smell of that to begin with, but people sware by it so it may work. You may want to dilute it a bit. I hope you find something.

Nature's Miracle worked for me after I had tried everything else and had repeatedly steam cleaned the carpet myself. I tried vinegar, Pet Fresh, baking soda, everything on the shelf except for the Nature's Miracle which I avoided because it is expensive. Finally I gave it a try. I would have saved myself a ton of money if I had just used that first! Follow the directions on the bottle, you have to soak the area and allow it to remain in the carpet and dry.

I purchase it at Petsmart. It is around $25 for large jug and you may be able to find a Petsmart or Petco IP. Sometimes I have found 5/25 Petco which I can use at Petsmart as a competitor.

    Good luck!

I've had good experience with Simple Solution urine stain and odor remover (I believe they make dog and cat versions - not sure how different they are). You need both an enzyme and bacteria - one breaks down and the other digests.

Make sure you saturate the carpet, pad and sub floor. You can't hurt anything with this stuff - it's damaged with pee anyway.

I had a landing that was pretty marked up. When we ripped up the carpet, we saturated the sub floor with Claussen Enzymagic (Simple Solution works similarly). The plywood was literally black in places. In three days with a good soaking, the wood dried, the stains were gone and most importantly, the smell was gone.

i use vinegar all the time for the dog pee....spray a test section first (out of the way) and make sure it isnt gong to damage your carpeting...
soak up any excess pee (old towel and stand on it, then scrub real good)
    spray vinegar on
    scrub real good
spray vinegar on again but not as much this time

if you have a carpet cleaner machine, put vinegar in the water with your soap

vinegar smells at first, but the smell disipates. i use vinegar on everything! i even spread it over the concrete floor of my outdoor kennel to take the funk out
