Thumbs Down Help- Cats Peeing on our back porch!!

There are a few wild cats running about peeing on both our back porch/gate area, as well as our front door/rug. On the front door and in the rug I have sprayed a bleach/water combination, but this has only worked for about 2 days and they are back. The back porch is a larger area and has ground/rocks/grass to settle into.

I need some help/tips in getting rid of the cat pee so other wild cats in the complex don't continue to pee in the same place.

Is there anything that isn't dangerous to the cats but will stop them and save us from the smell? Vinegar, Bleach, Ammonia??

    Please, please help!

NEVER want to use ammonia on cat pee. That will just increase the smell and make cats want to re-spray that area.

Here is a link to what I use for my carpets ( I have seven cats; three are boys. ) I've never had any problem from this stuff hurting my carpets, and outside it definitely shouldn't hurt anything. Might want to test just to be sure though!

Thanks to much! Although I just looked at the link and it appears to be a 2 step process? I don't know if this will work outside. I was hoping there was a concoction that I could put into one spray bottle/bucket to dump over a pretty large area. I will try it. At this point I am desperate.

    Thanks again!

Alternatively, if these cats are feral, you might want to call around and see if there is an Alley Cat organization that will trap and neuter them and then release them. That will also reduce spraying and help reduce the amount of cats you have around in the long run, too!

I know this is an old discussion, but I was wondering if the OP ever solved the cat problem. I recently moved to a new house, and I discovered that a neighborhood cat keeps peeing on our front porch and bushes. (I don't know if it's a stray or a pet; I've only seen it twice briefly.) The smell drives me crazy every time I leave from the front door, and I have two dogs who would love nothing more than to stand there all day sniffing around! So, any suggestions to make the cat stop peeing there and also to get rid of the smell?

    home remedies for the smell:

Vinegar and Baking Soda - First soak up as much of the urine as you can, then soak the area with a mixture of 1/3 cup of white vinegar with 2/3 cup of water and a little soap. With a clean rag, soak up any excess liquid pressing firmly and repeatedly until dry. Repeat this process using fresh water, and then use another rag to soak up the remaining liquid. After this, sprinkle some baking soda on the area and vaccuum up in 24 hours.
Peroxide - Some people claim peroxide works well in cleaning up cat urine and stains, though this can be tricky on surfaces which might discolor easily. Supposedly, peroxide breaks down the components in the cat urine which cause stains and odor. Pour a small amount directly on the area and allow to dry. Then rinse with warm water and soak up with a rag or paper towel.
Listerine Mouthwash - A number of people claim this helps eliminate cat urine odors when a few drops are added to your water & vinegar solution, or when mixed with a peroxide solution. It can also be mixed with just hot water and dabbed on the area. Most likely this is because of the amount of alcohol in Listerine.

Thanks for the suggestions! Do you know if any of these things will kill the plants outside my house? I want the cat to leave, but I like the bushes he's peeing on/around!

i use pure vinegar for killing weeds...it will kill anything at full strength....

if it is outside, i would dig up the area where they have been peeing (get rid of the pee smell somewhat) and then collect some pine cones and put them around that area. pine cones would be the cheap way as you can collect them at a cemetary or a park....but if you want to go pretty, get the rock and put it around ...my friend has the the flat round rock for her indoor plants just to keep the cats out of it and it works...anything to keep the cats from being able to "paw" a place to pee

I'm no help here but I just keep laughing when I see the word "peeing" when I scroll through the threads. It just looks funny in print!
