vinegar disipates too quickly for the odor to stay...it is more of a neutralizer...

one of those links mentions using orange spray. i know they sell an industrial strength orange spray that is an air freshner. i know this as they use to use it where i worked and you would come in and it smelled like an orange grove. but it says the cats do not like this smell..so you could try an orange spray too to keep the cats away....
