Permanent marker all inside dryer and all over clothes

DH had a permanent marker in his clothes that went through the dryer.

My dryer has marks all over it and a bunch of his clothes are covered in it too.

Any chance this can be undone?

Sorry, I don't know that it can be undone. I don't know how much is in the dryer, but I'd try a Magic Eraser, or use a pencil eraser and wet washcloth. I don't know that any kind of chemicals should be tried, but I know those will take permanent marker off stuff. You could try WD40 or toothpaste, the paste not gel, on the clothes. You should have plenty of that considering what board we're on LOL! There's other stuff you could try if that doesn't work if you look on the net. Good Luck!!!

What exactly do I need to do with the toothpaste? Does it need to sit for a while on the clothes or....do I need to rub it in or... Thanks for your help!

Poor you - I do nto know about the Toothpaste - but that totally stinks. Sounds like your DH may be related to mine!

Hello again....I was just cleaning a toy organizer with some Mean Green cleaner and it had permanent marker ink on it. It came off the blue part very good and almost came off the white part. It's still a little faded, but I wasn't scrubbing very good. I immediately thought of this thread and looked on the bottle because it has a bunch of uses listed. One of the uses is "Laundry Prewash". So if you have any of this around or want to buy some to try, then it might do the trick. I know I used a coupon to buy mine and got it pretty cheap because I don't buy cleaning supplies unless they are cheap. The coupon database shows there was a coupon for this in the 5/31 SS.

Upon googling mean green and permanent marker, I also came upon this post:

There is a product called M-30 that is available at Dollar General Stores and it works great on almost any surface that I have tried with permanent markers, from clothes to coffee tables. Also Mean Green works very well in some instances.

Also read some posts saying Mean Green with Oxiclean works, and someone said Shout Advanced gel worked on Sharpie marker on clothes.

Magic Eraser will get permanent marker off of the dryer--we have used it on some doors/furniture before. Don't know about the clothes, though. If you're gonna try something on the clothes, DON'T DRY THEM until the stain comes out, otherwise you'll "bake" the stain in the clothes! Good luck!

For the clothes, try hairspray.Rub it in, rinse, repeat until stain is gone and as said above, dont dry it until the stain is gone or it will "set" and you will never get it out! I did this many times when my kiddos were growing up- always worked for me.

Ditto on the hairspray for the clothes (and dryer) but it sounds like they already went through the dryer and it may be too late for them. 90 percent rubbing alcohol also works for me to get ink off surfaces. You could also try googling the Tightwad Gazette recipe for laundry stain remover, I know it works well on baby type stains but never tried it for ink.

I had the same thing happen! DH uses permanent markers at work all the time, and ONCE (that is all it took!), a black one ended up in the dryer.

A little bit of nail polish remover and a magic eraser should take of the inside of the dryer. Unfortunetly, I never was able to get the marker out of our clothers :(
