    Default Common cures

Cure Common Aliments with Household Items

    Morning sickness
Mix 1 teaspoon each fresh juice of mint and lime, and 1 tablespoon honey. Take 3 times a day.

    Mosquito bites
Apply lime juice diluted with water on bites with cotton ball.

    Mucus in cough
Pour 1 cup boiling water over ½ teaspoon each of ginger, ground cloves, and cinnamon. Filter. Sweeten with 1 teaspoon honey and drink

    Muscle cramps
Apply clove oil on the affected body parts

    Nausea
Boil 1/2 cup of rice in 1 cup of water for about 10-20 minutes. After it is boiled, drain the water into a cup and sip at the rice water until symptoms are gone.

    Obesity
Mix lime juice with honey and water. Drink a glass of this every morning.- Mix 3 teaspoon lime juice, ¼ teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon honey, and 1 cup water and drink for 3 months.-
Take 1 teaspoon lime juice with 1 cup water in the morning. Eat a tomato before breakfast

    Oily skin
For oily skin, mix 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal, 1 egg white, 1 Tablespoon lemon juice, and 1/2 cup mashed apple into a smooth paste. Apply to face and leave on 15 minutes. Rinse.

    Overweight
Effective at getting rid of fat, drink up to 3 cups of green tea daily. Regular tea can also be used with a lesser effect.

    Pain reliever
Mix 3 large spoonfuls of honey in boiled water and drink. Honey has natural pain-relieving powers.

    Smoking habit
Lick a little salt with the tip of your tongue whenever you feel the urge to smoke. This is said to break the habit within one month.

    Sore throat
Mix 1 teaspoon lime juice and 1 tablespoon honey. Swallow tiny amounts slowly 2-3 times a day.-
Use 1 tablespoon vinegar to an 8 ounce glass of warm water for a sore throat. Gargle every hour and swallow after gargling, with two mouthfuls.Mildly salted water makes an effective mouthwash. Use it hot for a sore throat gargle.-
Ease a sore throat by spraying with a mist (use a small plastic squeezy bottle) made up of tepid water and 3 drops of Tea Tree oil.

    Stomach ache
A simple cure for a stomachache is to dissolve 4 grams of ground cinnamon in 1 cup of warm water, cover it for 15 minutes, and drink it like tea. This remedy can also ease diarrhea and flatulence.

    Stomach acidity
Drink coconut water 3-4 times a day. Have a plateful of watermelon and/or cucumber every hour

    Sunburn
Mix 2 teaspoon tomato juice and 4 tablespoon buttermilk. Apply. Wash after ½ hour.- At bedtime, cover sunburns with a towel soaked in 50/50 water and vinegar and try to persuade the victim to sleep this way.Put vinegar in a spray bottle and spray on sunburn. It soothes for quite a length of time

    Toe Nail Fungus
For toe nail fungus you can use one part vinegar to one part warm water and soak your feet

    Toothache
Gargling with a salt and water solution will keep the area clean and deter bacteria. (Use about 1/2 litre water with up to one teaspoon of salt)

    Toothache & mouth pain
To ease toothache or other mouth pain, make a tea by boiling 5 grams of fresh peppermint in 1 cup water and adding a little salt. Peppermint is an antiseptic and contains menthol, which relieves pain when applied to skin surfaces.

    Varicose veins
For varicose veins, take 2-3 teaspoons of black strap molasses daily. This also treats all kinds of circulatory ailments

    Vomiting & nausea
Sucking a piece of ice controls vomiting. Eat ½ teaspoon ground cumin seeds. Cinnamon and sliced ginger work by interrupting nausea signals sent from the stomach to the brain. If you are a herbal tea drinker, simply sprinkle cinnamon on the tea and drink. To make ginger tea, simmer a few slices of ginger in hot tea water

    Warts
Try taping a slice of garlic to the wart. Be sure to first protect the surrounding skin with petroleum jelly.

If you get stung by a bee that leaves the stinger behind (like a honey bee - they can only sting you once because when they sting you they lose their stinger. Wasps and hornets don't lose their stinger - that's why they can sting you several times) do NOT try to remove the stinger by using tweezers. Squeezing it will release more of the bee's poison into your body. Take a flat surface, like the back of a knife blade and scrape the stinger away.

My grandfather's hobby was beekeeping and honey bees. Even though he passed away when I was 14, (I'm 36 now) I can still remember lots of stuff about bees that he taught me!!!

    Bee stings

The best thing for a bee sting is to make a paste of meat tenderizer to apply directly to the sting. Simply add a few drops of water at a time to about a teaspoon of meat tenderizer until it makes a paste that will stay on the bee sting. It works great and takes just minutes to work.

I have a trick with bee stings that I learned from a co worker years ago. When my husband was stung on the foot 3 times a few years ago, I put honey right on top of the area of the sting. I let the honey just sit there, open with no bandage. After a few hours, when I washed off the honey, there was no swelling and all of the painful redness went away. I did the same with my daughter when she was stung. It was a little awkward for her being that she was so young at the time, but after a few hours her sting didn't hurt anymore and I could wash the honey off. I also tried this remedy myself one day when I went to pick some Roses in my back yard and was stung on the finger. I immediately put the honey on my finger and after a few hours, my finger never hurt and nor did it swell.
My co worker, at the time, told me that it must be something in the honey from the bees that acts as a counter inflammatory to the bee sting. So, try it out and I hope you have as much success as I have had.

One thing that is easy to keep on hand for bee stings is an Alka Seltzer tablet. Wet it and lay on the bee sting to counter act the poison. This is great to carry in the first aid kit with a small bottle of saline.

Default How to Get Rid of Lice

How to Get Rid of Lice

Bundling up your kids in hats and scarves this winter will keep them warm and toasty — but it'll also provide a cozy home for lice. Follow our expert tips and you'll be nit-free in no time.

Pick the best treatment: "If your child's hair is fine or easily combed, a nit comb [available over-the-counter at drugstores] works best," says Richard Pollack, Ph.D., an entomologist with the Harvard School of Public Health. For thicker hair, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends Nix, an over-the-counter chemical rinse.

Go green: There's been a recent push to develop nontoxic lice treatments, thanks in part to lice's growing resistance to the chemicals in products like Nix. One popular new treatment: Use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser to suffocate the lice. (For directions go to nuvoforheadlice.com.) You can also try coating your child's head with olive oil (go to headlicetodeadlice.com, an organization that advocates nontoxic treatments, for more information).

Keep the critters at bay: Lice can't jump or fly, but they can climb. "If you're going to a popular kids' movie, take a rain jacket to throw over the seat's back. Lice can't get up the slick surface," says Joan Sawyer, cofounder of Headlicetodeadlice.com. And if there's a lice infestation in your child's class, send your child to school with slightly greasy hair, Sawyer advises — it's harder for lice to attach their eggs.

The best way that I found to get rid of lice and it is not toxic.

Mix olive oil with teatree oil....put on hair starting at root and make sure that it gets on every strand of hair all the way to the ends.

Let stand on hair for 30 mins....then rinse with white vinegar.

Wash with shampoo..........repeat 2-3 days later to make sure you got all of the eggs out.

    Hope this helps. :-)

Just dealt with this about 2 months ago and boy was is it tough!! What did the trick was to use olive oil all over her entire head, I than used saran wrap to cover it and she slept like that ...the next day I washed her hair and the nits were sooooo much easier to remove.
