TIPS Food Tips & Tricks

Ice-cream scoops

Scoop meatballs and cookie dough - If you want uniform-size meatballs every time, use an ice-cream scoop to measure out the perfect orbs. This method works well for cookies too. Dip the scoop in the dough, and plop the ball on the cookie sheet. You'll end up with cookies all the same size - no tiffs over which one is the largest.

Make butter balls - At your next large family gathering, scoop out large globes of butter or margarine to serve to your guests. A smaller scoop, or melon baller, can create individual - size balls of butter.

Create sand castles - On your next trip to the beach, throw an ice-cream scoop into your bag. Your kids will have a fun tool for making their sand castles down by the shore. The scoop allows them to make interesting rounded shapes with the sand.

Here To Help Turn Garden Lettuce into Restaurant Lettuce

I posted this at OGD, but I figured with so many of us with gardens this year and more people trying to get into gardening, that I would share this!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You know when you pick lettuce from the yard and it's kind of wilty and warm, here's a quick tip...

Put the lettuce in an ice bath - water and ice together - for about a 1/2 hour. The lettuce will crisp back up and chill at the same time and be crisp and fresh tasting. Put unused lettuce in zip seal bag for later - stays well like that.

I only wish I had lettuce to try it with. My veggies haven't done very well and I have never tried to grow lettuce.

You've inspired me to try it next summer! We eat a LOT of lettuce (romaine or leaf)

Default "Freebies" at the Restaurant

(Can anyone think of a better title? :shrug7:)

Instructables user, Maxstevenson (yes, I'm a little addicted to Instructables ) came up with the idea of making free ice cream using condiments available at most restaurants.

You can view their instructions here:
FREE mini icecream in a restaurant

I've also heard of people making "lemonade" using some slices of lemon, water, and sugar packets.

Any other ideas? Thanks for looking and I'd love to hear what sort of ideas you all can come up with!
