I do it all the time.
Right in with clothes, no special treatment (& all used stuffed animal go in before they go anywhere else).
In the summer, animals also hang out on the line after drying to air-out (they're playing in the sun....)

Now, people flamed at me for saying this once, but here goes.
If your child has "issues" with the idea of washing them, tell them it's like going to a theme park for stuffed animals. The washer is the water slides (see that curved agitator in there?) and the dryer is like the regular rides.
People complained saying if you told a child that you're likely to end up with a real pet in the washer.
Only you know if your child can make the distinction between safe-for-stuffed-animals-and-not-for-real-ones.
This helped me when the favorite animals needed washing, and no, no one ever tried to add the cat.
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but in alphabetical order, as it should be.

So, I got a lot of free stuffed animals from freecycle since I'm collecting toys for my baby (it's early, but I believe in being overly prepared) and I was wondering what the best way to clean them is.

Can I wash them in the washing machine on the gentle cycle? And (if so) should I use warm or cold water?

If not, what is the best way to wash them?

    Thanks!

yes you can wash most of them.....if they have one of those little boxes for talking, then no you can not. I wash all of my little girl's stuff animals in with her clothes in the laundry soap I use for her. I sometimes dry them and sometimes I do not depends on the animal.
